Lady Pacer track team is second in home four-way meet

The Switzerland County High School girls varsity track team finished second overall in a four-way meet held on Tuesday night at the Pacer track.

South Ripley won the meet with a team score of 89, followed by Switzerland County with 61; Jac-Cen-Del with 52; and Shawe Memorial with 24.

First place finishers for Switzerland County included Amber Meli in the 1,600-meter run with a personal best time of 6:06. Amanda Hon won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:44; and Maggie Armstrong claimed the blue ribbon in the discus with a distance of 87’5″.

Second places were earned by Shana Todd in the 400-meter run; Amber Meli in the 3,200-meter run; Katie Rayls in the discus; Christina Ahaus in the shot put; and Brittany Hall in the high jump.

Third place points were earned by Maggie Armstrong in the 200-meter dash; Laci Daugherty in the long jump; the 3,200-meter relay team of Beth Abbott, Shana Todd, Rosie Larson, and Amber Meli; and the 400-meter relay team of Brittany Hall, Maggie Armstrong, Leslie Johnson, and Shayla Smith.

Finishing fourth were Maggie Armstrong in the 100-meter dash; Beth Abbott in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run; and Laci Daugherty in the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles; and Katie Hall in the discus.

Shayla Smith was fifth in the 200-meter dash.

“The girls did a great job in the meet,” coach Adam Dennis said. “We have a ton of personal records in the past two meets; and Maggie Armstrong gets faster every time she runs. It’s great to see the improvement.”
