The Switzerland County Lady Pacer softball team played at Milan last Wednesday, winning with a score of 3-1.
There were several players of the game nominated by coach Steve Konkle: Courtney Cole and Ashley Bright, who were 2-for-3; Natalie Daugherty, Ashley Chase and Kodi Driver also nominated for their RBIs in the game.
The team had a total of nine hits during the game. Collecting two hits in the game were Ashley Chase, Ashley Bright (one a triple), Natalie Daugherty and Courtney Cole; Kodi Driver also had a hit during the game.
Scoring in the game were: Ashley Chase, Ashley Bright and Tanya Sefton. Tanya Sefton and Megan McCarty (courtesy runner) each stole a base.
Kodi Driver pitched the game and in the seven innings she pitched she faced just 30 batters, had seven strikeouts and only one walk. Kodi Driver also allowed eight hits, one run and one earned run.
“A team effort won this game; all the players contributed something. It was a good, close ball game. Our young players are coming along,” coach Steve Konkle said. “Milan is a tough place to play and a good team.”

The jayvee softball team lost 16-8 at Milan on Wednesday. Players of the game nominated by coach Rob Daugherty included: Megan McCarty, Emilee Waldron and Jenna Daugherty for getting a rare 4-3-6 triple play. Emilee Waldron caught the line drive, relayed to Jenna Daugherty at first; who relayed to Megan McCarty.
Scoring for the jayvee team were: Megan McCarty with three, Melissa Raisor with two, Karista Wengert, Amber Smith and Amanda Hale all finished with one.
Amber Smith and Megan McCarty each had three hits; while Melissa Raisor, Rachel Tressler, Kelsi South, Jenna Daugherty and Karista Wengert all had a hit each. Stolen bases were made by Kelsi South, Amanda Hale and Karista Wengert.
“Ashley Johnson and Ashley Bright made their first appearances pitching for the team. Milan hit the ball hard and capitalized on walks. Defensively we did a good job, we had only two errors,” coach Rob Daugherty said. “The loss puts us at 2-1 on the season. Milan had to shorten the innings due to an umpire leaving.”

The Lady Pacers played two games Saturday winning both.
Against the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles Saturday it was a close game 8-7. The team was down 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning coming back to take the win.
Players of the game were Courtney Cole, who had the game winning RBI with the bases loaded; and Natalie Daugherty who was 2-for-3 (one a double and one a triple, had 3 RBI, one runner thrown out at 2-6 and only one ball that went past her catching performance.
The team collected a total of 12 hits during the game: Courtney Cole, Kodi Driver, Natalie Daugherty and Tanya Sefton had two hits each. Sara Craig, Jennifer South, Natalie Graham and Ashley Chase all contributed one.
RBI stats for the team were: Natalie Daugherty with three, Natalie Graham with two, Kodi Driver and Courtney Cole each with one.
Scoring for the team were Ashley Chase and Natalie Daugherty with three, Jennifer South and Tanya Sefton each with one. Tanya Sefton, Natalie Daugherty and Ashley Chase each added a stolen base to their statistics.
Pitching seven innings in the game was Kodi Driver who is 4-0 for the season. She faced 32 batters had five strikeouts, seven runs, four earned runs, 11 hits, and only one base on balls.
“It was a close ball game — we gave them runs and they gave us runs. It was a good learning experience,” coach Steve Konkle said. “It was great to come away with a win, Jac-Cen-Del has a good solid ball club.”

The Lady Pacers also played North Decatur winning 7-0. Coach Steve Konkle picked Jennifer South and Kayla Konkle as players of the game. Jennifer South was 2-for-3 and had 2 RBI for a great game. Kayla Konkle had her first outing pitching in a varsity game this year and went the distance. She pitched all seven innings and faced 28 batters, had four hits, four walks and one strikeout.
Connecting on hits for the Lady Pacers with all singles were Natalie Graham 3-for-4, Natalie Daugherty and Jennifer South were both 2-for-3, Courtney Cole 2-for-4, Sara Craig and Kodi Driver 1-for-4, Tanya Sefton 1-for-3 and Amber Smith 1-for-1.
Jennifer South had two RBI, Sara Craig, Courtney Cole, Kodi Driver and Natalie Graham all had one RBI each.
Scoring for the Lady Pacers were : Sara Craig, Natalie Graham and Natalie Daugherty each with two and Courtney Cole added one. Sara Craig, Courtney Cole and Natalie Daugherty all had a stolen base each.
“It was a great defensive game, the entire team played solid on defense,” coach Steve Konkle said. “We had no extra base hits but put the ball in play. It was a good weekend of softball.”
