Lady Pacer soccer season starts with split

The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity soccer team has started its season off with a loss and a win.

On Thursday, August 24th, the Lady Pacers hosted the Madison Lady Cubs in the season opener.

It was a tough first half, with no goals being scored until in the 38th minute; when Madison’s Jillian Ward found an opening in Switzerland County defense and found the back of the net – ending the first half.

In the second half, the Pacers maintained control of the field for most of the stanza, but couldn’t get past the Madison goalie and into the net – ending with a loss, 1-0.

Goalie Maggie Armstrong recorded nine saves on goal; and Amanda Hale had one save. Kim Fox, Robbi Meyer, Sara Craig, Heather Peacock, and Carlie Peacock each had one shot at goal.

On Friday, August 25th, the Lady Pacers hosted South Ripley, and again it was a tough contest early, with the first half ending with no goals from either team.

In the second half the Lady Pacers began to take control on a cross from right forward Amber Meli, and Hannah Findley finished it off for a goal.

Then in the 21st minute, Sara Craig scored on a penalty kick after Amber Meli was tripped from behind inside the penalty area. The Lady Pacer defense did a great job keeping the Lady Raider offense out of goal and keeping the ball at midfield where the Lady Pacer offense took control with a win 2-0.

Maggie Armstrong recorded 14 saves in goal; Sara Craig had seven shots at goal; Amber Meli and Alyssa Leap had four; Rosie Larson had three; and Hannah Findley had one. Amber Meli also recorded one assist.

The next game for the Lady Pacer soccer team will be at home against Owen County on Monday, September 11th.
