The Switzerland County Lady Pacers soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a championship in the second annual ‘River Battle Invite’.
In the opening round, the Lady Pacers defeated Gallatin County 1-0. Switzerland County struggled to find the back of the net until Calleigh Powell scored on an assist from Rylee Hankins with seven minutes remaining in the game.
“We had 21 shots on goal and everyone of them were right at their Keeper,” head coach Tully Anderson said. “Sometimes it only takes one.”
In the second game, South Ripley defeated Carroll County 3-2 in a penalty kick shootout; and that set up the Championship game between the Lady Pacers and the Lady Raiders.
In the title tilt, Lady Pacers Kinsley Griffith and Raylinn Kappes got things started with first half goals, as assists went to Powell and Hankins.
Coach Anderson said that the Lady Pacers came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, as Powell connected on a penalty kick following a hand ball to put the Pacers up 3-1. Griffith then scored her second goal of the game assisted by Kappes to finish out a 4-1 Pacer win.
The Lady Pacers finished out their season with a 3-3-2 ORVC record and earned sole possession of second place. Switzerland County’s overall record stands at 5-6-2.
The Lady Pacers begin Sectional play against ORVC Champion Milan tonight (Thursday) at Rising Sun. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
