The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity soccer team has had a busy week:
— On Monday, August 27th, Lady Pacers fell at Scottsburg by a score of 6-1.
Rylee Hankins scored Switzerland County’s lone goal on a direct kick from 25 yards out.
— Last Thursday, August 30th, the Lady Pacers traveled to Rising Sun.
Switzerland County battled to a 2-2 halftime tie, with one of the goals being scored by Raylinn Kappes, assisted by Kaylee Jones; while Calleigh Powell also scored on a beautiful assisted give and go from Rylee Hankins.
The Lady Shiners scored two unanswered goals in the second half to edge out the Lady Pacers, 4-2.
“We played a total team game and our coaches were very proud of our girls,” head coach Tully Anderson said. “It is so difficult for our ladies playing a long season and in very hot conditions with only 13 healthy players.”
— On Saturday, September 1st, the Madison Lady Cubs came to town, and the Lady Pacers battled in 90 degree heat for the first 30 minutes to keep Madison in check. Madison scored just before the half to go up 1-0.
In the second half, the Lady Cubs came out fast and scored in the first minute to take a 2-0 lead. Madison then added two more goals to finish out the game with a 4-0 advantage.
Coach Anderson said that Alli Bruce, Kaitlyn Yeary and Emily Pike played well for Switzerland County.
“We had a few chances but couldn’t find the back of the net,” the coach said. “Raylinn Kappes had a shot bounce off the inside post and go straight to the Cubs Keeper and that seemed to take some wind out of our sails in the first half. Our ladies never quit and continue to make our parents and coaches proud.”
