Lady Pacer offense runs cold as South Ripley wins big, 65-21

The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity basketball team continued to experience its early season ‘growing pains’ on Tuesday night, as a trip to state-ranked South Ripley resulted in a 65-21 loss.

The Lady Pacers couldn’t get their offense on track the entire night, thanks in part to a stinging Lady Raider defense. South Ripley, currently ranked #4 in the state’s Class 2A poll, got its offense rolling early and never looked back.

The first quarter saw South Ripley outscore Switzerland County 20-4, with the Lady Pacers getting baskets from Aleiah Thomas and Kinsley Griffith. South Ripley got eight early points from Morgan Peetz and five points each from Mariah Gentile and Cameo Hamm to fuel its early run.

Making matters worse for Coach Mark Boggs’ Lady Pacers was that starting guard McKenli Scudder didn’t play in the game resting an injured ankle.

The second quarter saw a near mirror-image of the first, as South Ripley again scored 20 points while Switzerland County managed just three. Keirstan Oeffinger had a bucket for the Lady Pacers, while Thomas contributed a freethrow.

The Lady Raiders were led in the period by Kiley Sparks with six points and Peetz added five more. At the halftime break, South Ripley led by a score of 40-7.

The third quarter saw South Ripley cool off a bit, but the Lady Raiders still managed to score 15 points while Switzerland County nearly doubled its first half output, scoring six points.

Jody Breeck had three points in the quarter; while Lexi Lay added a basket and Thomas had another freethrow.

Hamm had five points in the third for South Ripley; while Elexah Roepke had four and the trio of Toria Tucker, Sparks, and Gentile each had two.

Up by a score of 55-13 after three quarters, the fourth period was evenly played from an offensive perspective, with Switzerland County scoring eight points, while South Ripley posted 10 more.

In the final stanza, Breeck had four points on a field goal and a pair of freethrows; while Thomas and Emma Sullivan each had a bucket.

Peetz capped her good game with six more in the fourth; while Roepke added the other four.

The final horn saw the Lady Raiders with a 65-21 victory over the Lady Pacers.

The slim scoring for Switzerland County saw Breeck lead with seven points; while Thomas added six. Oeffinger, Sullivan, Lay, and Griffith each had two points in the contest.

Peetz led South Ripley with 19 points; while Hamm and Roepke each had 12 and Gentile made it four in double figures, as she had 10. Sparks finished with eight; and Tucker had four.

The junior varsity game saw South Ripley defeat Switzerland County by a final score of 37-24.

The Lady Pacers were led in the game by Josie Meyer, who finished with seven points; while Keirstan Oeffinger had six points in the game.

Emma Sullivan had four points; Calleigh Powell had three points; Jayden Thomas had two points; and Jaelyn Hemingway and Jaycee Peelman each had one point.
