Katie Wright to represent county in State Festivals pageant

Switzerland County High School senior Katie Wright, who is the reigning Swiss Wine Festival Princess, will compete at the Miss Indiana State Festival Queen Pageant.

With this honor, she will travel to Muncie this Saturday to vie for the title and try to bring it back to Vevay.

Katie Wright will be competing with 25 other girls from Indiana. She will be leaving tomorrow (Friday) with her mother, BJ Wright, and Swiss Wine Festival board president Kirk Works. She will have to memorize a dance routine as well as participate in an interview, evening gown, and sportswear competition. All areas of the pageant focus on things like poise, charm, and self-confidence.

If Katie Wright is chosen to be the Miss Indiana State Festival Queen, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice. She will also visit festivals all over Indiana and appear at state conventions.

The pageant atmosphere is nothing new to Katie Wright. She has competed in the 2004 and 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageant, earning first runner-up both years.

Also in 2004, she participated in the Edelweiss Teen Princess Pageant and earned first runner-up as well.

Katie Wright also hopes to compete in the Miss Indiana USA pageant next spring. In that competition, she will have an interview, evening gown, and swimsuit competition. Katie explains that the pageants she’s been involved with have made her more confident. She also says they make her a better onstage speaker as well as give her better interview skills.

Katie Wright says the best advice she’s been given for her pageants is to try hard and always believe in herself.

“I’m excited to have this opportunity and I can’t wait to meet new people and have a fun time. I hope I do well and learn new things to help me in future pageants,” Katie said.

She also states that she hopes others see her as a role model and a positive county representative. Katie is very eager to leave for the pageant and hopes to bring home the title of Miss Indiana State Festival Queen.
