Katie Wright is 2006 Switzerland County 4-H Fair Queen

Katie Wright will reign over the 2006 Switzerland County 4-H Fair, having been named Fair Queen at last Friday night’s pageant from a list of 14 contestants.

The pageant was held at the Switzerland County High School cafeteria, and Katie Wright will now reign over the 2006 4-H Fair, which will be held from July 1st-8th.

The Fair Queen is a 2006 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and is the daughter of B.J. Wright of near Vevay and the late Dr. Jerry Wright. She is 18 years old, and was sponsored in the pageant by Mo’s Steakhouse.

Katie Wright is the reigning Edelweiss Princess; and was the first runner up in the 2006 Queen of Hearts pageant, and in the 2004 and 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageants. She participated in the 2005 Indiana Festivals pageant; and was a finalist in the 2006 Miss Indiana National Miss pageant. She also served as an officer in the FFA. She is a member of 4-H, conservation club; French Club; and the pep club. She will attend the University of Southern Indiana in the fall to study to become a TV broadcaster.

The first runner up in this year’s pageant was Sydney Pike.

Sydney Pike is the daughter of Billy and Tanya Pike of near East Enterprise, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is 17 years old, and was sponsored in this year’s pageant by G.G.’s Grill.

She was the 2004 Edelweiss Teen Princess; the 2006 Queen of Hearts; and was the second runner up in the 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageant. She was secretary of the junior class; is editor of the school newspaper; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, and has earned Grand Champion honors in 4-H. Following graduation, she hopes one day to open her own business.

Jill Hazeldean was honored as being the second runner up at Friday’s pageant.

She is 17 years old, and is the daughter of Jerry and Jan Hazeldean of near East Enterprise. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and was sponsored in the pageant by “Hair It Is”.

Jill Hazeldean was the third runner up in the 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageant; was the second runner up and Miss Congeniality in the 2005 Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant; and was the third runner up in the 2004 Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant. She is a three-year member of the varsity cheerleading squad; and is also involved in FFA, prayer group, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Following graduation she plans on pursuing a career in nursing or psychology.

The third runner up at Friday’s pageant was Emilee Waldron.

She is 16 years old, and will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Greg and Dorie Peelman of near Patriot, and was sponsored in the pageant by Tom T’s Electric.

She is a member of the “All A” Honor Roll; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is involved in the FFA program, where she serves as treasurer; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; pep club; and 4-H. She participates in cross country, track, and softball; and is also a varsity cheerleader. After graduation, Emilee Waldron plans on attending college with a career ambition of becoming a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

Kaleesa Archer was honored by her fellow contestants by being named as Miss Congeniality.

She is the daughter of Mark Archer of near Moorefield and Tonya Krall of near Mount Sterling. She is 17 years old, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She was sponsored in the pageant by Swiss Alps Printing and Office Supplies.

Kaleesa Archer is active in the Switzerland County FFA chapter, and was recently elected chapter president. She has also served the chapter as student advisor and secretary. She is active in pep club; is student manager for the jayvee and varsity boys basketball teams and the cross country teams; and is the public address announcer for boys baseball games. Following graduation, she plans on a career as a professional photographer.
