Katie Wright, the 2006 Miss Switzerland County, attended the 150th Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis last week. She proudly represented Switzerland County in the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant while at the fair.
The competition began at the Marten House Hotel on Friday morning with registration and orientation; and there were fair queens from the other 85 Indiana counties also in attendance.
After being judged in career wear and evening gowns on Saturday in the Pepsi Coliseum, the girls were given some free time to walk around and enjoy the State Fair.
That evening, the Indiana State Fair Board hosted a dinner for all of the contestants and their chaperones; and some key people who organized and supported the event were introduced.
In attendance at the dinner were Jim and Donna Cole of near Vevay. Jim Cole is a director of the Indiana State Fair.
On Sunday morning, rehearsals began and there were activities that provided a final look at all of the girls before the crowning of the new Indiana State Fair Queen. This year’s queen is from Wells County.
Overall it was an exciting weekend for Katie Wright and her mom, B.J. Wright. Both felt it was a memorable learning experience, and were proud to talk about Switzerland County when asked, “Where is that?”
