Karoline Park, the daughter of Paul and Lesia Park of McCreary’s Ridge, has been chosen by the Ninth District American Legion Auxiliary #185 as Switzerland County High School’s representative to the 69th annual Hoosier Girls State.
Karoline is a junior at Switzerland County High School.
Hoosier Girls State will be held June 20th-26th on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
Karoline Park will join approximately 650 other young women for this government program, which is designed to educate leaders of tomorrow in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship.
This session of government and practical politics is non-partisan and non-political.
Citizens begin their week by registering to vote, where they receive an assignment to a mythical political party, which at registration time has no political organization or party beliefs or platform.
All of this will then be established by the delegates within the first three days of the session.
Delegates must file for an elected office on the city, county, state level. She then conducts her political campaign – complete with speeches and campaign materials.
Once elected, the delegate will be sworn in and perform the duties as described for that position. Non-elected delegates are given appointments as well as encouraged to visit the offices of those elected to communicate their needs as citizens.
Tri-Kappa Sorority is co-sponsoring Karoline Park’s trip to Hoosier Girls State.
