K-9 search helps lead to drug arrest

A Switzerland County woman is under arrest on drug charges after an investigation by the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department culminated last week.

On Tuesday, November 8th, Switzerland County Sheriff’s deputies Chad Terpening and Robert Morton responded to a residence on Phillips Road near East Enterprise at approximately 11 p.m.

The deputies went to the residence to serve an arrest warrant on Rebecca Hart. The warrant was for trafficking with an inmate and dealing in methamphetamine – both are Level 5 felonies.

Upon arrival, the deputies were given consent to search the residence; and Hart was located and taken into custody. During the search, the Switzerland County K-9 deputy located approximately 16 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Hart was arrested on the original warrant; and also the additional charges of dealing in methamphetamine (a Level 2 felony), possession of methamphetamine (A Level 4 felony); possession of marijuana; and also possession of paraphernalia (both Class A misdemeanors).

Hart was lodged in the Switzerland County jail, where she was being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

It is noted that all suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
