The Rising Sun Advisory Plan Commission approved Planned Unit Development (PUD) at its meeting on Monday, July 10th and their favorable recommendation was approved by city council on Thursday, July 13th.
The approval was for the rezoning of four city lots on Sixth and Poplar streets. The 8 acres was changed from B-1, single family business to the planned unit development.
The project will be known as John’s Place Condominiums, a senior living community, and named remembrance of former councilman John Rumsey and in commemoration of city founder John James.
The project includes 10 residential units to be built in three phases. The first four lots include 203 Sixth street along with 301, 311, and 313 North Poplar. The residences will be 1200 to 1700 square feet.
The properties are owned by Rising Sun Senior Properties LLC and the Rising Sun Redevelopment Corporation. White Pine Construction and owner Tim White have been working on the development which is expected to bring new jobs and an increase of $1.59 million in the city’s tax base.
City council suspended the rules to avoid putting the project behind and further.
The PUD now goes back to the plan commission for approval of its detailed plans.
