Joe Hemingway, McKenli Scudder are MVPs of Vevay Media Group Invitational

Switzerland County Middle School hosted the Vevay Media Group Invitational last Friday night in what turned out to be a beautiful evening for a track meet.

It was also a great night for the Pacers, as Joe Hemingway raced his way to the boys Most Valuable trophy in record setting fashion; and McKenli Scudder earned the Most Valuable award for the girls meet for her efforts.

The Pacer boys team won the meet with a team score of 87, followed by Rising Sun with 44; Southwestern with 27; and Jac-Cen-Del with 25.

Hemingway led the way with first place finishes in the long jump with a distance of 15’7″; the 100-meter dash in a school-record time of :11.97; and the 200-meter dash in a time of :24.9.

Zack Howlett won the discus with a distance of 104′ 4 1/2″; and Leon Kinne captured the 800-meter run in a time of 2:30.05. The Pacers also earned first place points in both the 400-meter and 1,600-meter relays.

Second places were earned by Dezmond Lange in the long jump and the 100-meter dash; Cameron E. Shaw in the discus and the shot put; Doug Pedraza in the 1,600-meter run; and Damian Breeck in the 400-meter dash.

Finishing third was Jeremiah Thomas in the 800-meter run; Caden Hankins in the 200-meter dash; Pedraza in the high jump; and Howlett in the shot put. Fourth was Coren Lynam in the 110-meter hurdles; Garrett Demaree in the 1,600-meter run; Hankins in the 400-meter dash; and Breeck in the high jump. Thomas was also fifth in the 110-meter hurdles.

In the girls invitational, Switzerland County finished second with a team score of 72 – getting edged by Rising Sun, which finished with 74 points. Jac-Cen-Del had 32 points; and Southwestern finished with six points.

In earning Most Valuable honors, McKenli Scudder won the 200-meter dash in a time of :28.68. Also winning their events were Sydney Thomas in the 100-meter dash in a time of :13.66; Leah Anders in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:51.20; and Leighla Day in the long jump with a distance of 14’4″. Also winning was the 400-meter relay team.

Second places were earned by Josie Meyer in the 100-meter hurdles; Scudder in the 100-meter dash and the long jump; Anders in the 1,600-meter run; Maggie Clayton in the 400-meter dash; Day in the 200-meter dash; and the 1,600-meter relay team.

In third place was Kinsley Griffith in the 100-meter hurdles and Keirsten Oeffinger in the 1,600-meter run; while fourth places were earned by Meyer in the high jump; Lillian Northcutt in the 400-meter dash; and Ariel Oeffinger in the discus. Thomas was fifth in the shot put; and Zoe Cole was fifth in the 800-meter run.
