Jessie Duvall scores 13 in Lady Pacer victory at Henryville
It’s a tough task for any team to open its season with three games in three days, but the Switzerland County Lady Pacers did just that, and capped the stretch with a 48-25 win on Saturday night at Henryville.
Once again Switzerland County jumped out early, racing off to a 16-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
Outside shooting was on display early, as Jessie Duvall, Keirstan Oeffinger, and Maddie Duvall each had three-pointers in the opening period. Maddie Duvall added a field goal and a freethrow to her first quarter tally; while Halle Archer and Nora Hankins each added buckets in the opening period.
The second period was more closely played, but Switzerland County continued to pull ahead, outscoring Henryville 12-8, going into halftime with a 28-12 advantage.
Jessie Duvall exploded offensively in the second, connecting on three field goals and hitting a pair of freethrows for eight points; while Oeffinger hit her second three-pointer of the night; and Hankins added a freethrow.
Avery King led the offense for Henryville in the second, as she hit a pair of three-pointers to keep the Lady Hornets in the game.
Switzerland County didn’t let up coming out of the halftime break, posting 16 points to the scoreboard in the third stanza while limiting Henryville to just six — four of those coming from the freethrow line.
Hannah Hayes had a big third quarter for Switzerland County, posting six points on two field goals and a couple of freethrows; while Oeffinger continued her hot streak from the outside, hitting her third three-pointer — one in each quarter — and adding a basket for five third period points. Maddie Duvall also had a three-pointer in the period; and Jessie Duvall added a field goal.
With a quarter to play, Switzerland County was firmly in control of the contest, leading 44-18.
As it did the night before, Switzerland County hit a cold spot in the final quarter, putting up just four points over the final eight minutes.
The Lady Pacer defense stayed strong however, allowing Henryville just seven points in the fourth — not nearly a big enough edge to cast doubt on the outcome.
