Freshman Jessie Duvall ignited a Lady Pacer win last Wednesday night, scoring 16 points in a 48-40 victory at South Decatur.
The game was the middle of three straight road games on three straight night for Switzerland County, but the Lady Pacers played with determination and control throughout the game.
In the first quarter, South Decatur outscored their guests by a 10-8 count. Maddie Duvall had a three-pointer in the opener for Switzerland County; while Keirstan Oeffinger also had three points on a field goal and a freethrow. Aleiah Thomas had the other two points.
In the second period, the Lady Pacer offense began to click, scoring 12 points while holding South Decatur to just nine to take a 20-19 lead into the break.
Balance was again key, as both Jessie Duvall and Jaden Harrell each contributed four points in the period; while Lexie Lay hit two freethrows and Oeffinger and Rylee Hankins each made one freethrow.
Up by one heading into the final half, Switzerland County again won the third quarter, outscoring South Decatur 11-7. Jessie Duvall took over offensively, hitting three three-pointers for nine points; while Hankins contributed an inside bucket for the other Lady Pacer markers.
Now up by five points heading into the final quarter, Switzerland County saved its best for last, scoring 17 points over the eight minute span while their hosts managed to score 14.
Thomas, undoubtedly one of the top players in the area, showed why in the final stanza, as she capped a quiet night with eight points in the fourth to lead the way. Jessie Duvall continued her deadeye shooting from outside, hitting her fourth three-pointer of the half; and Maddie Duvall also kept the defense honest as she connected on her second three-pointer of the game. Hankins had another bucket; and Oeffinger chipped in a freethrow to provide the final margin of victory, 48-40.
Jessie Duvall had a game high 16 to lead all scorers; while Thomas finished in double figures with 10. Hankins and Oeffinger each added five points to the tally; while Harrell had four and Lay contributed two.
Sierra Long led South Decatur with 11 points in the game.
In the junior varsity game, Switzerland County won by a final score of 54-22.
Josie Meyer had a huge night, finishing with 23 points on seven field goals and three three-pointers. Hannah Hayes was also in double figures with 17 points; while Jayden Thomas and Jaden Harrell each had five. Maddie Duvall and Keirstan Oeffinger each finished the jayvee game with two points each.
