The Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department has issued its quarterly activity report for the end of 2011.
– During 2011, the department responded to 404 emergency calls.
- The department has also installed new board members for 2012. They include:
• President: John Stafford
• Vice President: Lewis Fritter
• Secretary/Treasurer: James Miller
• Board Member: Jeremy Harsin
• Board Member: Dennis Cole
• Board Member: Bill Leap
– The Jeff-Craig Department recently had two of its existing fire apparatus reconditioned. New baffled tanks, compartment space, body work, and several other items were installed to make the fire trucks move versatile to the department and better able to serve the community.
– The department would like to share some safety tips with the community:
• Make sure carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are in working order. House fires are more frequent during the winter months due to alternate sources of heating.
• If you have a fuel-burning appliance, make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector. Such appliances include: oil and gas furnaces; gas water heaters; gas ranges and ovens; gas clothes dryers; gas or kerosene space heaters; fireplaces; and wood stoves.
• Make sure audible detectors are installed on every floor of your home, including basements and attics.
• Make sure detectors are within 15-feet of bedrooms.
• Be aware of black ice and avoid hydroplaning. Be on the look out for where water and/or ice may cross roadways.
