Jeff-Craig Department adds search services


The Jeff-Craig Fire & Rescue department has that is now has expanded department capabilities which include an ESF 9 K-9 Search and Rescue and ESF 2 Communications.

This currently consists of 10 SAR members and 7 K-9’s. Human trainings and certifications of team include but are not limited to: Wilderness and Urban Search, Building K-9 search, Structural Collapse Search, Tracking, Trailing, Cadaver, and Live Find training.

Members of the team are also certified in areas such as: Crime Scene Awareness, Alzheimer’s Awareness, Autism Awareness, Lost Person Behavior, Fatigue Awareness, and Critical Incident Stress. Of the team, 6 of the 10 members are also Ham Radio Licensed.

Two K-9s have their IDHS Air Scent Live Certification.

To receive IDHS certification, the K-9 and handler must find 0-3 live victims in a 60-acre area within 60 minutes. One K-9 is IDHS Certified in Tracking/Trailing. Human Remains Detection dogs for land and water are available as well.

The team is completely self-sustainable for 72 hours and available to respond 24/7. Activation of team is approximately 30 minutes.
