There’s a new face on the Vevay Town Council.
At the end of the council’s last meeting, council member Joe Spilman announced his resignation. Spilman is moving out of Vevay and into the county, so the move makes him ineligible to serve. Spilman said that he had tried to maintain two residences until his term expires next year, but that proved to be difficult.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished during my time on the board,” Spilman said. “ I think we’ve done many good things, but there’s still a lot more to do. It’s been an honor to serve this town.”
To fill Spilman’s unexpired term, the Switzerland County Republican Precinct Committee persons met last Thursday, May 31st, and appointed J.J. Sullivan to the town council position.
Sullivan is a lifelong resident of Vevay, and currently owns and operates his own construction and painting business. He and his wife, Gayle, live on Ferry Street near Vevay Hill.
He joins Keith Smith and Dawn Ossman on the town council.
All three positions on the Vevay Town Council will be up for election in November of 2019, with board members assuming new four year terms on January 1st, 2020.
