Ivy Tech and Rising Star partner to help employees

Ivy Tech Community College and Rising Star Casino Resort are partnering to offer the Achieve Your Degree program to Rising Star employees, giving them the opportunity to pursue their education and advance their career-related skills at minimal or no upfront costs.

This Ivy Tech initiative enables Rising Star employees to receive guidance and financial assistance from Ivy Tech while avoiding out-of-pocket tuition expenses by utilizing Rising Star’s tuition assistance program. In-state tuition is offered to all students regardless of their primary residence.

Ivy Tech will assist Rising Star employees with the college and financial aid application process and will defer billing until the end of the semester, ensuring students take advantage of any financial aid opportunities for which they qualify. On-site application assistance and academic advising will be provided by Ivy Tech faculty and staff in order to accommodate busy work schedules and ensure appropriate course choices. A combination of face-to-face and on-line courses ensures that students can maintain their work schedule while working towards a certificate or degree.

“We are so pleased that Ivy Tech invited us to work with them on this initiative,” said Claire Hodapp, Director of Human Resources at Rising Star. “The Achieve Your Degree program will allow more of our employees to take advantage of our tuition assistance program and advance their careers while working with us.”

The Achieve Your Degree program is open to full-time Rising Star employees who have been with the company for six months or more. Ivy Tech offers numerous degree and certificate options, including accounting and business administration. Rising Star is one of the first companies in southeastern Indiana to take advantage of the new statewide program that partners Ivy Tech with community businesses and institutions to offer employees the opportunity to receive a free community college education.

“Achieve Your Degree gives Rising Star employees a tremendous opportunity to develop personally and professionally by pursuing a college education at low to no cost to them,” said Denise Sedler, Ivy Tech Assistant Director of Admissions for Adult Strategies. “This enables employees to gain valuable skills for career advancement and gives employers an in-house pipeline of talent to grow their businesses.”
