For the third year in a row the Junior 4-H Entomology Judging Team from Switzerland County earned first place at the State Entomology Judging contest.
The contest was held at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Saturday, December 12th. The contest was the final exam for Purdue’s Career Development Event, which is open to all Indiana 4-H and FFA club members. In addition to Entomology there are similar competitions in crops and Forestry.
The Entomology Team is part of the local 4-H club, the “Insect Agents”, and earned its trip to State by placing first at the area contest in November. They spend many hours preparing and practicing for the contest, and again this year their hard work paid off.
Club members include Jenal Flynn, Raven Frazier, Hannah Moore, Patty Miller and Levi Baker, Lisa Cunningham, Andrea Hall, Laney Proffet and James Busching. The team is coached by Jenny Slover and Milan Busching.
Anyone interested in participating or learning more about the “Insect Agents” or the Entomology project may contact the Purdue extension office at (812) 427-3152.
