Inmates taken to Dearborn County

Ohio County Sheriff Glen Potts told Ohio County Commissioners that prisoners that had been housed in the Switzerland County Jail have been moved to Dearborn County.

On Friday, Oct. 3rd, Potts reported an overcrowding issue at Switzerland County forced him to contact Dearborn County. He was able to get the same rate of $35 per day per inmate through December 2018.

Potts expressed concern of deputies who have been hired and gone through the law enforcement academy only to move on to other departments. The latest in the revolving door was Jason Turner going to the Rising Sun Police Department.

There have been 16 applications for the current vacancy. Longtime deputy Dee Smith is planning to retire in October.

In other business, the county will receive $750,000 from the Community Crossing Grant Program through the Indiana Depatment of Transportation and will find out more at a meeting on October 19th.
