The Indy Car racing series came to the Kentucky Speedway last weekend, and on Thursday race car driver Simona de Silvestro – a native of Thun, Switzerland, which is about 120 kilometers northeast of Vevey, Switzerland.
Now driving in the IZOD IndyCar Series #78 for HVM Racing, Simona de Silvestro currently sits in 20th place in the series standings; and at the Kentucky Speedway, she earned a 25th place finish after starting 13th overall.
The driver came to Vevay last Thursday to film a promotional piece for IMS Productions that was shown prior to the start of the Kentucky Speedway race on Sunday. Known as the “Swiss Miss” because of her nationality, IMS Productions brought Simona de Silvestro here to tour our “Switzerland”.
Simona was welcomed to Switzerland County by Angie Satterfield of the Visitors Center; and also Andrea Brogan, 2011 Edelweiss Princess of the Swiss Wine Festival.
The crew filmed the driver walking down Main Street talking with Angie Satterfield about the similarities between her home country and the hills of Switzerland County; and after filming concluded in downtown, the crew moved to the Schenck Mansion and then to other points around the community.
