INDOT to chip seal Highway 156 next week

277

The Indiana Department of Transportation is scheduling Southeast District maintenance personnel for chip seal operations next Monday through Wednesday -August 7th-9th – on State Road 156 between Vevay and Patriot in Switzerland County.

A total of 34 lane miles of highway adjacent to the Ohio River – between State Road 56 and State Road 250 – will benefit from the surface treatment. A segment of State Road156 near Markland Dam and Belterra Casino will not be affected.

Chip seal applications coat highways with liquid asphalt – sealing pavement cracks and protecting the roadbed from moisture intrusion and damaging ultraviolet rays. Small chips of limestone choke the asphalt and reestablish a proper coefficient of friction for safer driving.

INDOT officials advise motorists to give crews plenty of room to work and to drive slowly with ample space between vehicles on freshly treated pavements.

Motorists can learn about highway work zones and other traffic alerts at indot.carsprogram.org; (800) 261-ROAD (7623); or 511 from a mobile phone.
