Illinois man gets 3 years for child solicitation here

An Illinois man has been sentenced to three years in prison after using social media to solicit an underage Vevay girl.

On Monday, January 29th, Terry E. Pruitt, 30, of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced in Switzerland County Circuit Court to three years in prison with one year suspended after being convicted of Child Solicitation, a Class 5 felony. He was convicted of sending inappropriate photos to who he believed to be a 15 year old female. Pruitt also agreed to travel from Danville, Illinois to Vevay to meet the alleged underage female. All communications between Pruitt and the alleged underage female occurred on social media.

“Social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and others are widely used by teenagers and even younger children. This is a strong reminder that there are predators out there that are willing to travel any distance to take advantage of young children,” Vevay Police Chief James Richards said. “Parents need to keep track of their children’s social media accounts and remind them to report any suspicious activity to you and/or the police.”

The Vevay Police Department warns that sending a nude photo to anyone under the age of 16 is a level 6 felony in the State of Indiana; and that even if a person deletes it, it can remain on social media forever.

Chief Richards said that this and other investigations are ongoing. Anyone with any information on this or any other suspicious activity should contact the Vevay Police Department at (812) 427-3737.
