Hunter’s 3-run HR lifts RS over Tigers

The Rising Sun Lady Shiners picked up their first win of the season with a 5-3 win over the Lawrenceburg Tigers on Monday, April 3rd at Rising Sun’s Lions Club Field.

Senior Baylie Hunter keyed the win with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

LAwrenceburg scored one in the top of the third.

Rising Sun came back with two in the bottom of the inning. Caroline Stapleton opened with a double, sister Jacqueline Stapleton singled. Chelsea Brown’s sac fly scored the tying run and Sydney Pitts fly ball made it 2-1.

The Tigers took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Caroline Stapleton singled and Pitts was hit by a pitch to set the stage for Hunter’s second home run of the season.

That’s all Pitts needed to get her first win of her freshman campaign.

Lawrenceburg outhit the Shiners 8-6 but had three errors to just one for the Shiners. Hunter ad two hits while Brown, Pitts and the Stapleton sisters adding a hit each. Pitts picked up 10 strikeouts while walking just one. Jacqueline Stapleton and Kyla Willhite had stolen bases.

Rising Sun (1-2) was set to go on the road to Hauser on Tuesday, Trinity Lutheran tonight (Thursday), Pendleton Heights Saturday and Southwestern (HAnover) on Monday. They will return home to host Franklin County on Wednesday, April 12th. The game should be played on the high school field, provided the dugout constrcution is completed.
