HS Summer baseball a big success here

The summer high school baseball team finished the season with an 8-2 record.

The usually rainy weather limited the amount of games played; but Mother Nature was about the only thing that could slow down the Pacers.

Coach Combs said that the pitching staff led the way all season, boasting a 2.10 ERA. Zack Whitaker and Matt Roland combined for 47 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched.

“The pitchers were well supported by some excellent team defense which made only 10 errors all summer,” Coach Combs said. “The offense did a great job manufacturing runs with some small ball, including a walk-off squeeze bunt in extra innings.”

Dalton Roark led the team with a .429 batting average, and Casper Stow scored 14 runs in only 22 at bats.

“The boys showed a lot of improvement on the bases stealing 24 times while only being caught twice,” the coach said. “We are very excited about the 2016 season with many returning starters coming back from a 10-win team.”
