‘Hometown Heroes’ honored at First Friday tomorrow night


The Switzerland County Visitors Center will be the contact point for the “Capture the Flag” Scavenger Hunt that takes place during tomorrow’s (Friday, July 3rd) First Friday “Saluting our Hometown Heroes”.

The Capture the Flag event will take place from 6-8 p.m. The Vevay’s First Friday event is from 6-9 p.m.

Scavenger hunt participants are invited to meet at the Visitors Center at 128 West Main Street to be marked with either with a red mark to specify the “Swift Swiss” or a blue mark for the “Ignite Indiana” team. Equipped with a map of participating businesses, team members will enter the establishments to obtain either a red Swiss or blue Indiana State flag for their team.

Only two flags per participating business will be available. Participants who return flags to the Visitors Center by 8 p.m. will be entered into a drawing for a prize. There is no charge to participate.

Vevay Main Street and the American Legion Post #185 will recognize “Hometown Heroes” during the July First Friday event.

The two organizations have announced that the first recipients of the “Hometown Heroes” award are Larry Tolbert and Tony Peelman.

To honor them, a ceremony will take place on Liberty Street tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

There will also be music all around town, with ‘Nu Balance’ playing on Liberty Street; ‘Remember Me Monday’ will be performing at the park on Ferry Street; and over at K&C Antique Mall, Brittany Gillstrap will be performing.

The Switzerland County Little League Football program will be holding a fundraiser on Liberty Street, with a meal of a hamburger, chips, and a drink for $5; a hot dog, chips, and a drink for $5; or they will also have walking tacos.

Vevay’s First Friday also includes late night shopping, dining, art opening, store specials, live music, and free carriage rides weather permitting. July’s musical performers include Brittany Gillstrap and My Brother’s Keeper.
