Homecoming is tomorrow night at Switzerland County High School

Switzerland County High School will hold its annual Homecoming celebration tomorrow (Friday) night when longtime rival Rising Sun comes to Vevay for an ORVC game.

Highlighting the festivities will be the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, which will take place between the junior varsity and varsity basketball games. The royal couple will then reign over the remainder of the night’s events, including the Homecoming dance for students that will be held in the cafeteria immediately following the conclusion of the varsity game.

There are 10 queen candidates and 10 king candidates vying for this year’s Homecoming titles. Here’s a look at each of the candidates:

QUEEN CANDIDATES

— BRITTANY KAY COLE: Brittany Cole is the daughter of Tammy and Duane Cole of Florence. She is a member of the varsity basketball team, the varsity softball team, and the varsity volleyball team. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; prayer group; the Pep Club; and is secretary of the Key Club.
Brittany is a member of the student newspaper; is a member of the National Honor Society; and earned All Conference honors in volleyball. She earned the mental attitude award in softball; and was a member of this year’s Rivertown Classic basketball All Tournament team.
Brittany Cole plans on attending Indiana University and plans on pursuing a career in physical therapy.

— JENNIFER LOUISE DEATON: Jennifer Deaton is the daughter of Sheri Deaton of Vevay and Todd Deaton of Vevay. She is the FFA chapter treasurer; and is a volunteer worker for the Swiss Wine Festival and for Special Olympics. She has been a volunteer for the Switzerland County Relay for Life event; and is a member of the Pep Club and student council.
She is ranked in the top 15 in her class; has earned certification in Microsoft Word; and was voted by her classmates as being the “Class Flirt.”
Jennifer Deaton plans on attending Louisville Tech to study graphic design after graduating from high school.

— JILL NICOLE GREGORY: Jill Gregory is the daughter of Charles and Debra Gregory of Florence. She is co-president of the student council; is a member of prayer group; and is vice president of the senior class. She was the co-captain of the varsity soccer team; is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Pep Club; and is an assistant coach for the sixth grade cheerleading squad.
She earned the mental attitude award in soccer; and was voted by her classmates to represent the school as the queen contestant at the Aurora Farmers Fair. She is included in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students”; has earned a spot on the National Honor Roll; and was voted as having the “Best Smile” by her classmates.
Jill Gregory plans on attending Franklin College following graduation, and her major is undecided at this time.

— ASHLEY RACHELLE HITE: Ashley Hite is the daughter of Joseph and Gwen Hite of near Patriot. She is a member of the varsity cheerleading squad, and is also a member of the prayer group. She participates in Pep Club; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and FFA.
She is a member of the Pacer Post student newspaper staff; and was voted by her classmates as the “Class Sweetheart” in senior superlatives.
Following graduation, Ashley Hite plans on attending Indiana University to study pre-denistry.

— ELIZABETH NICOLE HON: Elizabeth Hon is the daughter of Danny and Jennifer Hon of Florence. She is a member of the varsity cheerleading squad; student council; and the FFA. She participates in the Switzerland County 4-H program; and is a member of the Pep Club.
She was voted by her classmates as having the “Best Laugh” in senior superlatives.
After graduation, Elizabeth Hon plans on attending college and majoring in fashion merchandising; or may enter the military and eventually become involved with the CIA.

— HOLLY ANN JACKSON: Holly Jackson is the daughter of Myron and Sheila Jackson of near Vevay. She participates on the varsity basketball team; the varsity softball team; the varsity volleyball team; and the varsity golf team. She is vice president of the Key Club; treasurer of the senior class; and treasurer of the Pep Club. She is a team leader for the school newspaper and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Pride Club.
She was named the most valuable player in softball; earned the leadership award in volleyball as a junior; earned the leadership award in golf as a senior; and was voted as having the “Best Personality” by her classmates.
Holly Jackson plans on attending Franklin College following graduation and studying elementary education.

— ABIGAIL FRANCES LANMAN: Abby Lanman is the daughter of Patrick and Jacquita Lanman of Vevay. She is a four-year member of the varsity cheerleading squad, and currently is the co-captain of the cheerleading squad. She is the secretary of the FFA chapter; is secretary of the senior class; is a four year member of the varsity golf team; and a 10-year member of the Switzerland County 4-H program. She attends Olive Branch Baptist Church; and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Pep Club; Lettermans Club; prayer group; and the newspaper staff.
She earned her State FFA degree; was a state proficiency winner in FFA; and is the secretary of FFA District 12. She was voted as having the “Most School Spirit” by her classmates; is a member of the National Honor Society; and is in the top 10 in her class.
Abby Lanman plans on attending Purdue University in the fall to study elementary education; and plans someday on being a principal.

— MEGAN MARIE LOHIDE: Megan Lohide is the daughter of Mark and Lee Jaye Lohide of near East Enterprise. She is a four-year member of the varsity cheerleading squad, and currently is the co-captain of the cheerleading squad. She is a member of the varsity cross country team and the varsity track team; is reporter of the FFA chapter; and is treasurer of the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; the Pacer Post newspaper staff; and the Lettermans Club.
She earned the ORVC Mental Attitude Award in cross country; is the reigning Miss Switzerland County; and earned the leadership award in cross country.
Megan Lohide has been accepted to Ball State University; and will be majoring in mathematical science education beginning this fall.

— BRIANNE SARA-GRACE MARTIN: Brianne Martin is the daughter of Rebecca Dean Martin of Vevay. She is the president of the senior class; is historian of the student council; and is co-editor of the yearbook staff. She is a member of the prayer group; a member of the varsity soccer team; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and is coach of the middle school cheerleaders and the middle school dance team.
She was voted as the most improved on the varsity soccer team; was voted by her classmates as “Best Dressed” in senior superlatives; and is the reigning Queen of the Versailles Pumpkin Show.
Brianne Martin plans on attending Indiana Wesleyan following graduation and pursuing a double major in photography and education; and also plans on cheering while in college. She plans on minoring in journalism; and hopes one day to become a teacher.

— ADRIENNE GAYLE SHAW: Adrienne Shaw is the daughter of Brenda Shaw of Fairview and Ryan Shaw of Pleasant. She is a varsity cheerleader; a member of the Pacer Post newspaper staff; and the National Honor Society.
She is a member of the prayer group; Pep Club; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; FFA; and the Lettermans Club. She was voted in senior superlatives as being “Happy-Go-Lucky” by her classmates.
Adrienne Shaw plans in attending Indiana University following graduation and will major in journalism.

KING CANDIDATES

— CHRISTOPHER KYLE BOVARD: Chris Bovard is the son of Ernest and Suzi Bovard of East Enterprise.
He is a member of the Conservation Club and the French Club; and was the Switzerland County High School senior class representative in the Swiss Ambassador Contest for the Swiss Wine Festival.
Chris Bovard plans on attending Purdue University following graduation and studying to be a computer information technician.

— ZACHARY RYAN BROWNING: Zack Browning is the son of Jim and Jeni Browning of Clarksville, Tennessee.
He is a member of the varsity soccer team; and plans on participating on the varsity baseball team this spring. He is currently in the Computer Assisted Drafting program at the Southeastern Career Center.
Zack Browning plans on attending Ball State University following graduation, and is undecided on his major course of study.

— MICHAEL DAVID FOX: Mike Fox is the son of Mike Fox of Patriot and Jeanette Fox of Kentucky.
He is the president of the Pep Club; is a member of the FFA chapter; and is a member of the Pacer Post newspaper team. He is earning his Core 40 diploma; and was voted as the “Class Clown” by his classmates in senior superlatives.
Following graduation, Mike Fox plans on enlisting in the U.S. Air Force.

— JONAH LEE McCLELLAN: Jonah McClellan is the son of Larry McClellan of Rising Sun and Mary McClellan of Vevay. He is a four year member of the varsity soccer team; is a member of the varsity baseball team; and for five years has served as a youth soccer referee.
He is a member of the student council; prayer group; and earned the “Best Defense” award in baseball; and has earned inclusion on the A-B Honor Roll. He represented his class as the king candidate at the Aurora Farmers Fair last fall.
Jonah McClellan plans on attending Indiana State University in the fall to major in aviation flight technology; and while there will join the Air Force ROTC and plans on becoming a pilot in the U.S. Air Force.

— RYAN WESLEY OWINGS: Ryan Owings is the son of Robert and Kathleen Owings of Bennington. He is a member of the varsity basketball team; the varsity soccer team; and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is a member of prayer group; the Pep Club; and the newspaper staff.
He was voted by his classmates as “Class Sweetheart”; is captain of the varsity basketball team and was captain of the varsity soccer team; and earned the mental attitude award for varsity soccer. He represented his classmates as the king candidate at the 2004 Versailles Pumpkin Show, were he was named as the first runner up.
Ryan Owings plans on attending Indiana University following graduation and studying sports medicine.

— SHAWN MICHAEL PIERCE: Shawn Pierce is the son of Peggy Pierce of Fairview and the late Tom Pierce.
He is a member of the FFA chapter; and is also a member of the Pep Club.
Following graduation, Shawn Pierce plans on attending Ball State University, and at this time is undecided on a major.

— DUSTIN EDWARD RICKETTS: Dustin Ricketts is the son of Mike Ricketts of Vevay and Micah and Shawnna Ramsey of Vevay.
He is a member of the Conservation Club.
After graduation this spring, Dustin Ricketts plans on enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, and plans one day on a career as an Air Force pilot.

— WILLIAM TYLER SELF: Willie Self is the son of Barbara Lucas of Moorefield and Wade Self of Moorefield. He is a student at the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles.
Following graduation, Willie Self plans on attending Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis; where he will continue his studies in the auto collision and repair course.
— JOEY TURNER: Joey Turner is the son of Jeanne Barnes of Patriot.
He is a member of the varsity soccer team; and is also a member of the Switzerland County FFA chapter.
In soccer he earned the “Best Offense” award; and earned a spot on the ORVC All Conference Soccer team this past fall.
Following graduation, Joey Turner plans on entering the Greater Cincinnati Apprenticeship Program, studying to be a union electrician.

— ELIJAH VAN NORSTRAN: Elijah Van Norstran is the son of Rick and Carla Van Norstran of Bennington.
He enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping; and is a student at the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles.
Following graduation, Elijah Van Norstran plans on pursuing a career in construction and welding.
