Switzerland County High School will again hold its annual Homecoming celebration tomorrow (Friday) night when the Pacers host the New Washington Mustangs.
The junior varsity game gets underway at 6 p.m., and the highlight of the Homecoming festivities will be the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, which will occur between the jayvee and varsity games.
This year there are 11 candidates from the senior class for the title of Queen and King of Homecoming 2006. Here’s a look at those vying to the honor:
QUEEN CANDIDATES
JESSICA AKINS is the daughter of Wendi Akins of East Enterprise and Cliff Akins of Vevay. She has earned inclusion on the A-B Honor Roll; was voted by her fellow seniors as having the “Best Laugh”; and has earned the Academic Honors diploma. She is president of the senior class; is a member of student council; and was her class’s representative to the Versailles Pumpkin Show Queen pageant. She plans on attending the University of Louisville and is undecided on a career choice at this time.
ASHLEY CHASE is the daughter of Lawrence and Marsha Chase of near Vevay. She is vice president of the senior class; involved in FCA and Lettermans Club; and is the editor of the school newspaper. She was an Indiana Junior All Star in basketball; is a McDonald’s All American nominee; and has been all conference in track, basketball, volleyball, and softball. She was voted as “Most Athletic” by her senior classmates. She will attend the University of Evansville on a basketball scholarship and major in marketing.
CAYLA LEE CHASE is the daughter of Jack and Jill Chase of Bennington. She has earned inclusion on the Honor Roll, and is a member of the Pep Club; Business Professionals of America; and is a varsity cheerleader. Following graduation, Cayla Chase plans on attending Northern Kentucky University, where she will major in elementary education.
NATALIE DAUGHERTY is the daughter of Rob and Kathy Daugherty of Vevay. She is the vice president of the National Honor Society; is a member of the Switzerland Baptist Church youth group; and is treasurer of the Key Club. She was the MVP of the golf team for three years; and has earned honors in basketball, volleyball, golf, and softball during her high school career. She is a 10-year member of 4-H, and following graduation she plans on attending Franklin College to major in business and play softball and golf.
AMANDA FABER is the daughter of Jeff and Donna Faber of Florence. She was voted as the “Best Dressed” by her senior classmates; and is secretary of the senior class. She is involved in Key Club; Pep Club; Prayer Group; and the Business Professionals of America. She is also a member of the Conservation Club and the Switzerland County 4-H program. She plans on attending Indiana University to major in fashion merchandising.
NATALIE GRAHAM is the daughter of Brett and Donna Graham of Vevay. She is the president of the French Club; is a four-year member of the softball team; a three-year member of the volleyball team; and has been on the student council for three years. She is the student representative to the United Fund of Switzerland County; and was voted as having the “Best Eyes” by her senior classmates. She plans on attending Indiana University Southeast and studying nursing.
MELISSA KINNE is the daughter of Steve Kinne of near Vevay and Pam Scudder of Warsaw, Kentucky. She is captain of the varsity cheerleading squad; president of the FFA chapter; president of the National Honor Society; and is president of the conservation club. She has represented her school on several academic teams. She is a member of the cross country team; and was voted by her senior classmates as “Most Likely to Succeed.” She plans on attending DePauw University in the fall to major in biochemistry.
ASHLEY LEONARD is the daughter of Vickie Martin of Vevay and Rick Leonard of Rising Sun. She was voted by her senior classmates as the “Class Whiner”; and is treasurer of the senior class. She has been involved in cheerleading; FFA; student council; yearbook staff; and currently works parttime at Swiss Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She plans on attending Purdue University to study nursing.
BRITTANY MUKADAM is the daughter of Richard and Kathy Mukadam of near East Enterprise. She is captain of the varsity cheerleading squad; was voted as having the “Most School Spirit” by her senior classmates; and was a Top Ten finalist in the Miss Indiana American Coed pageant. She is a member of FFA; Key Club; Business Professionals of America; Pep Club; and Prayer Group. She plans on attending college to major in broadcasting/media, and has a goal of becoming a national news anchor.
SARAH PERKINS is the daughter of Laura Sullivan of Vevay and Rick Perkins of Owenton, Kentucky. She was voted as the “Class Sweetheart” by her fellow seniors; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is editor of the yearbook; is a member of Key Club; Pep Club; FFA; Business Professionals of America; and is an office aide. She plans on attending the University of Southern Indiana and majoring in elementary education.
KATIE WRIGHT is the daughter of B.J. Wright of near Vevay and the late Dr. Jerry Wright. She is the reigning Edelweiss Princess, and was a contestant in the 2006 Indiana State Festivals pageant. She was voted as the “Class Flirt” by her senior classmates; and has earned a number of awards in FFA. She is a member of the Pep Club; and is on the newspaper staff; and is a volunteer with the Special Olympics. She plans on attending the University of Southern Indiana to major in advertising and public relations.
KING CANDIDATES
TYLER ALLEN is the son of Traci and Greg Pavy of near Vevay and Rodney Allen of Cincinnati. He was voted as having the “Best Eyes” by his fellow seniors; and is a “Student of Success” recipient. He is the top FFA chapter Soils team member; and is an officer in the FFA; and is a member of the Pep Club. He plans on attending Cincinnati State University to study computer networking engineering.
CALEB BURDSALL is the son of Joe and Andrea Burdsall of Vevay. He is a member of the National Honor Society; was a Hoosier Boys State delegate; and was voted as having the “Best Personality” by his senior classmates. He is the vice president of the conservation club; at works at See’s Vevay Dairy Queen in Vevay. He plans on attending Eastern Kentucky University to study criminal justice; and will pursue a career with first the State Police, and then the FBI.
NICK CARFIELD is the son of Jeff Carfield of Vevay and Pam Powell of Rising Sun. He was voted by his fellow senior classmates as having the “Best Hair”; and attends the Southeastern Career Center. At the Career Center, he participates in VICA and Skills USA. He plans on attending WYO Technical College to become certified in auto collision repair and custom fabrication.
MATHEW DAVID DEATON is the son of Sheri Deaton of near Vevay and Todd Deaton of Vevay. He has earned inclusion on the A-B Honor Roll; and is a member of the varsity basketball team. He is the treasurer of the Conservation Club. Following graduation, he plans on studying civil engineering at Tri State University.
ZACH GETZ is the son of James and Daphne Getz of Center Square. He was recognized by Sprint as a “Leader of Tomorrow” for his community service; and was voted as the “Class Crack Up” by his fellow seniors. He is a member of the varsity basketball, cross country and baseball teams; and is Reporter of the FFA chapter. He will continue his education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he will student to become a commercial airline pilot.
BEN HICKMAN is the son of David and Debbie Hickman of Vevay. He participates in track, where he has been the MVP for the past three years; and was the sectional champion in the long jump in 2005. He has participated in soccer; and is a member of the varsity basketball team. He is a member of the French Club; FCA; and is a member of the Switzerland Baptist Church youth group. He plans on attending either Butler University, Purdue University; or Franklin College to major in either history or geology.
JACOB CLIFFORD KRALL is the son of Mike Krall of near Vevay and Jenny Krall of Cincinnati. He is an active member in the Switzerland County FFA chapter, and is also active in the Business Cooperative program. He plans on attending college following graduation, but is undecided on his major at this time.
MICHAEL WAYNE OTTER is the son of Donnie and Rhonda Otter of Moorefield. He was voted as the “Best Dressed” by his senior classmates; and has participated on the varsity baseball and basketball teams; and is also a member of the Pep Club and FFA. He plans on pursuing a career in welding or as a heavy equipment driver.
NICHOLAS CODY PETERS is the son of Charlie and Vicki Peters of near Vevay. He participates in varsity basketball, where he earned the “Best Defense” award last year; and he is also a member of the varsity baseball team, where he earned the ERA award last year, the Most Wins award, and earned a spot on the All Conference team in 2005. His future plans are undecided at this time.
B.J. SHELTON is the son of Tina Wingate of near Moorefield and Bill Shelton of Osgood. He was voted as “Best Friend” by his fellow seniors; and also earned the Mental Attitude award in track. He is a three year member of the varsity basketball team; a four year member of the track team; and is a member of the FFA chapter. He is a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church. His career plans are undecided at this time.
JUSTIN ANTHONY THOMAS is the son of Anthony and Venita Thomas of near Patriot. He was voted as “Class Sweetheart” by his fellow seniors; and was a member of the Area Soils Team for FFA. He is a “Student of Success” recipient; and is a candidate for the Brazil FFA Ambassador program. He is also involved in the Pep Club; and has earned inclusion on the Honor Roll. He plans on attending Vincennes University to study to be a conservation officer.
