The 2016-2017 boys basketball season gets underway this Saturday with the annual Jamboree – but Coach Adam Dennis and his charges will have a new opponent to kick off the season.
The Pacers were originally set to begin their season this Tuesday, November 22nd, with a pre-Thanksgiving game at home against East Central, but the Trojans advancement in the IHSAA Football playoffs has caused that game to be rescheduled.
With that game being delayed, Switzerland County athletic director David Todd was able to schedule a home game against the Hauser Jets this Tuesday as a replacement – so there will be basketball, it will just be against a different foe than expected.
Todd said that the East Central game will now be played on Tuesday, December 6th. The contest will still be the opening home game for the Pacers, but the first game will now be a road game at Clarksville on Saturday, November 26th.
As for the Jamboree, it will be played this Saturday, November 19th, at South Ripley High School. The event will begin at 1 p.m., and each of the conference schools will play two eight-minute quarters.
The jamboree will open with South Ripley playing Switzerland County; with the Pacers then returning for the second quarter against Jac-Cen-Del. The Eagles will then play the third period against Rising Sun.
The Shiners stay on the court for the fourth period, where they will play Shawe Memorial; with the Hilltoppers then playing the fifth quarter against Milan. Quarter six will pit the Indians against Southwestern; with the Rebels then staying on the court to play in the day’s final period against South Ripley.
Admission to the event is $5.
The Switzerland County schedule features new teams and a new additional tournament this year.
After the game at Clarksville and the home gsame with East Central – both new to the Pacer schedule – Switzerland County will travel to Rising Sun on Friday, December 9th. That will be followed by a home game with Trinity Lutheran on Friday, December 16th.
New to the schedule this year is an all new version of the old Jefferson County Invitational Tournament, which will see Switzerland County, Madison, Southwestern, and Shawe Memorial meet for a tournament featuring boys and girls teams beginning on Thursday, December 22nd. Switzerland County has drawn Madison for the first round games of the new tourney.
That tournament will be followed by a game at Borden on Tuesday, December 27th; and the calendar year will come to a close with a trip to Seymour on Thursday, December 29th.
The year 2017 will open in tradition fashion with the Rivertown Classic tournament featuring the boys and girls teams from Switzerland County, Rising Sun, South Dearborn and Lawrenceburg beginning on Thursday, January 5th for the boys games. The tournament will again be held at South Dearborn.
After the tournament, Switzerland County will travel to Southwestern on Friday, January 13th; and then cap a weekend roadtrip with a game at South Ripley on Saturday, January 14th.
That will be followed by a home game with Rising Sun on Friday, January 20th; and then it’s back out on the road, with games at New Washington on Friday, January 27th; at Milan on Saturday, January 28th, and at Scottsburg on Thursday, February 2nd.
Home cooking will then follow for the Pacers, as Switzerland County will come home for five straight games: Lawrenceburg on Tuesday, February 7th; Shawe Memorial on Friday, February 10th; Franklin County on Saturday, February 11th; Jac-Cen-Del on Friday, February 17th; and South Dearborn on Saturday, February 18th.
The regular season will end with a game at Madison on Thursday, February 23rd, before the Pacers enter Sectional play.
