The upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays will be busy ones for the Switzerland County Lady Pacer and Pacer basketball teams; as both squads will be participating in two tournaments.
– On Saturday, December 27th, the Lady Pacer reserve and varsity teams will be competing in the “Lady Cub Classic” at Franklin Community High School in Franklin, Indiana.
The jayvee Lady Pacers will kick off the tourney at 9 a.m. that day against Franklin. The other side of the junior varsity bracket will feature Richmond against West Vigo. Switzerland County will be the visiting team.
The championship and consolation games will be played at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon.
All junior varsity games will be played in the school’s fieldhouse.
The Switzerland County varsity squad will play Franklin at 10:30 a.m. on December 27th; with Richmond and West Vigo playing at noon.
The consolation game will be played beginning at 6 p.m. that evening; with the championship game set for 7:30 p.m.
The varsity games will be played in the school’s main gym.
The tournament is broken down into two sessions: Session One includes the morning reserve games and the first round varsity games; Session Two includes the consolation and championship games for both tournaments.
Tickets will be available at the door; and are $5 per session or $9 for the entire tournament. Doors for the morning session will open at 8 a.m.
– The boys varsity team will compete for the first time in the “Union County Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament” in Liberty, Indiana, on Friday, January 2nd and Saturday, January 3rd.
On Friday, Switzerland County will play two games, both at Union County High School.
The Pacers will play Horizon Christian at 2 p.m.; which will follow the noon game featuring Union County and Fall Creek Academy.
The losers of the two games will then play at 6 p.m.; and the winners of the two afternoon games will play at 8 p.m.
Also on Friday at Union County Middle School, Franklin County will play Irvington Community at noon; and Guerin Catholic will play Edinburgh at 2 p.m.
As with the games at the high school, the losers of the two games will then play at 6 p.m.; and the winners of the two afternoon games will play at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, all games will be played at Union County High School. The seventh place game (the losing teams from Friday’s 6 p.m. games) will be held at 2 p.m.; while the fifth place game (the winning teams from Friday’s 6 p.m. games) will be played at 4 p.m.
The third place game (the losing teams from Friday’s 8 p.m. games) will begin at 6 p.m.; and the tournament will conclude with the championship game beginning at 8 p.m.
Tickets will be available at the door for both sessions.
– Both the girls and boys teams will again compete in the Rivertown Classic Tournament being held at South Dearborn High School January 7th-10th.
On Wednesday, January 7th; the tournament will open at 6 p.m. with a girls game featuring Rising Sun and South Dearborn. That will be followed by the Lady Pacers playing Lawrenceburg at approximately 7:30 p.m.; and the Switzerland County band will be playing during that game.
On Thursday, January 8th, the boys tournament will get underway; and again Rising Sun will play South Dearborn in the first game at 6 p.m.; followed by Switzerland County and Lawrenceburg in the second contest of the evening.
Friday night will feature the two consolation games, for girls and boys teams; with the girls game beginning at 6 p.m. Friday will also be the night for the cheerleader competition, with the Switzerland County varsity squad competing.
The cheerleader competition will be held between games; with the winners being announced at halftime of the second game.
Saturday night is Championship Night, and the girls title tilt will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boys championship game.
The winning cheerleading squad and the runner up squad will perform between the games.
Tournament tickets are $10; or each session is available at the door for $5 each night.
For Switzerland County fans, advance tickets for the Rivertown Classic will be available in the front lobby during Saturday afternoon girls game with South Ripley and Saturday evening’s boys game with South Ripley.
Advance sale tickets are for the entire tournament, only. Single session tickets must be purchased at the door; and preschoolers will be admitted free.
