Holidays are here with ‘First Friday’

Tomorrow (Friday) marks the final “First Friday” of the year presented by Vevay Main Street, and there will be all types of events and activities going on to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Highlighting tomorrow night will the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree on the lawn of the Switzerland County Courthouse at 7 p.m. Caroling will be by “Musical Resources”, and “Pere Noel”, a French-Swiss Santa figure, will arrive at the courthouse by carriage to help light the tree. Following the lighting he will be passing out treats to the kids.

Here’s a look at the rest of the evening:

– Beginning at 5 p.m., cookbook author Shawn Keeton will be signing his newest book “Keeton in the Kitchen” at the Java Bean Confectionery until 9 p.m.

– There will again be free horse-drawn carriage rides from 6-9 p.m. Those rides begin in front of the Switzerland County Courthouse.

– Carolers from Switzerland Baptist Church and Truth Apostolic Church will be roaming the streets until 8 p.m.

– The Switzerland County Historical Museum will be holding a holiday open house from 6-8 p.m.

- Live music by local musician Michael Kruse at The Wine Cellar until 9 p.m.

– There will be a Town Crier on the streets and in businesses until 9 p.m.

– The “People’s Choice Award” for Vevay Main Street’s wreath contest will have voting until 8 p.m., at Pass N Time Crafts.

– The “Of Switzerland County” store will give everyone the chance to have their photo taken with Santa until 9 p.m. People need to bring their own camera. There will also be cookie decorating until 9 p.m.

– The opening reception for Matthew Nightingale’s exhibit titled “Seashells and More” at Luhr’s Studio and Fine Art Gallery will be held until 9 p.m.

– The world premiere of “Dashing Through the Snow” will begin at the Historic Hoosier Theater at 7 p.m. There will also be a performance on Saturday, December 4th at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, December 5th at 2 p.m.

– The awards for the Gingerbread House contest will be announced at the “Of Switzerland County” store at 7:30 p.m.

– The awards for the “Deck the District” wreath contest will be announced at 8 p.m. at Pass N Time Crafts.

– In addition to all of the special events going on around downtown, stores will have special hours and open houses during the “First Friday” event.
