Historic boys soccer season comes to an end at Regional with loss to CAI
A history-making season by the Switzerland County boys varsity soccer team came to a sudden end last Wednesday, October 12th.
The Pacers, winners of the Class 1A #45 at Jac-Cen-Del, fell in the first round of the IHSAA Regional to the Christian Academy Warriors by a 3-1 score. The game was played on Christian Academy’s home field.
“The game was hard fought by both teams, but soccer is a game of moments and Christian Academy was able to capitalize on just enough to pull out the victory,” Pacer head coach David Todd said.
The Pacers out shot the Warriors 26-15; and had 16 shots on goal compared to the Warriors 11.
After Christian Academy scored the first goal of the game at the 30:10 mark; but sophomore Cooper Todd countered with what would be Switzerland County’s only goal off of an assist by Aiden Griffith at the 18:25 mark to send the teams to halftime tied at 1-1.
Christian Academy then had a goal to break the tie with 23:59 left in the game; and then added a third goal with just over 10 minutes to play to make the county 3-1 — and that’s how the game ended.
The Pacers finished the season 19-1 — including the school’s first ever sectional championship, the school’s first ever conference championship, and an undefeated regular season that included no ties. They were the only team in the state of Indiana to accomplish those levels — regardless of class.
