The Switzerland County High School boys and girls varsity cross country teams have had a busy week, participating in the East Central Invitational last Thursday and the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational on Saturday.
At East Central, the girls team placed fourth in the seven-team field, compiling a team score of 88. Batesville won the invitational with 33; followed by Greensburg with 65; and Rising Sun with 66. Following the Lady Pacers, Jac-Cen-Del had 113; Lawrenceburg had 135; and Milan participated but did not have enough runners to record a team score.
Individually for Switzerland County, Amanda Hon was the overall winner of the meet with a time of 16:27.
Other Lady Pacer runners included: Beth Abbott, 17th in 19:42; April Thieman, 18th in 19:43; Shana Todd, 23rd in 20:15; Ashley Bright, 35th in 22:41; Heather Thomas, 37th in 22:53; and Melissa Kinne, 39th in 24:07.
“Amanda ran a very smart race,” Coach Mark Boggs said. “Started out conservatively and picked it up midway through the race. She has always been a consistent runner, but I feel that in this race she really ran a complete race.”
The boys team placed fourth in an eight-team field. Team scores were: Batesville, 33; Rising Sun, 90; Jac-Cen-Del, 90; Switzerland County, 90; Milan, 99; South Ripley, 121; Greensburg, 133; and Lawrenceburg, 206.
Individually for Switzerland County: Josh Snow was 13th in 18:47; Zach Getz was 16th in 19:07; Jim Abbott was 17th in 19:08; Clay Meyer, 20th in 19:19; Travis Webster, 24th in 19:28; Kyle Green, 47th in 22:00; and Mark Sharp, 49th in 22:15.
“Once again the team’s pack time has been very good and consistent,” Coach Boggs said. “What we need to work on is getting this group in the upper tier of the race. By tournament time, we should be much closer.”
