High school athletes honored for success in fall sports at banquet

Switzerland County High School held its fall athletic banquet last Thursday night, and honored participants in girls golf, volleyball, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls cross country.

Those earning special awards included:

– In junior varsity volleyball, the Serve Award was earned by Lauren Edwards; the Mental Attitude Award was earned by Hannah Slover; and the Most Improved Award was earned by Nila Johnson.

- In varsity volleyball, the Serve Award was earned by Jessie Ray; Trisha Smith earned the Spiking Award; and Sarah Asher earned the Mental Attitude Award.

The Most Improved Award was earned by Ashley Watson; and Hayley South earned the Defensive Award.

– Girls golf presented the Most Valuable Player Award to Karoline Park; and the Freshman Award was earned by Susie Reyes, Kayla Hall, and McKenzie Dye.

– In boys junior varsity soccer, the Most Improved Award was earned by Brandon Grenat; the Outstanding Defender Award was shared by Bradley Cox and Mitchell Alford; and the “Biggest Heart” Award was earned by Alex Paradise.

- For boys varsity soccer, the Outstanding Freshman Award was earned by Richie Lay; and the Most Improved Award was earned by Chris Morris.

Earning awards for Outstanding Offense were Josh Yeary and Anthony Dasis; and Outstanding Defender Awards were earned by Logan Todd, Brady Scudder, and Steven Craig.

The “Biggest Heart” Award was presented to Garrett Schultz, Dillon Deems, and Dylan Griffith; and Garrett Schultz was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

- In girls varsity soccer, Emily White was honored for being the team’s Leading Scorer; Kim Cox was honored as the Outstanding Goalkeeper, and it was noted that she earned All Sectional honors; and Emily White earned the Most Assists Award.

Raven Young earned the Outstanding Defender Award; Ashley Peelman earned the Outstanding Midfielder Award; MacKenzie Anderson earned the Outstanding Freshman Award; Morgan Kimmel earned the Most Improved Award; and Raven Young was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

– In girls varsity cross country, the Newcomer of the Year Award was earned by Robin Furnish; Paige Ridener earned the Mental Toughness Award; and Robin Furnish also earned the Most Improved Award.

Bre Hinman and Allie Mathews each earned Leadership Awards; and Bre Hinman was honored as the team’s Top Runner, having won the ORVC individual championship.

All five of the honored girls earned All Conference honors and All Sectional honors.

– In boys varsity cross country, the Newcomer of the Year Award was presented to Michael Douglas; Mikhail Cole earned the Most Improved Award; and Sean Oatman earned the Mental Toughness Award.

Leadership Awards were presented to Quinn Meyer and Anthony Dennis; and the team’s top runner was freshman Braden Burk.

At the end of the program, Switzerland County High School athletic director David Todd presented Scholastic Awards to athletes who maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Underclassmen honored were: Erica Coy, Robin Furnish, Bre Ricketts, Devin Coy, Lauren Edwards, Olivia Hewitt, Lensi Parham, Paige Ridener, Hannah Slover, Logan Todd, Emily White, Rachel Whitham, Bre Hinman, Allie Mathews, Laura Nay, and Courtney Roland.

Seniors earning plaques included: Sarah Asher, Kim Cox, Shea Dickerson, Ashley Green, Dylan Griffith, Morgan Hale, Karoline Park, and Lindsay Scott.
