Helping the community

Dear Editor:

The board of directors of the Vevay Unit of the Salvation Army would like to thank all of the organizations, businesses and individuals that supported us in the past year. We were able to assist 83 families and a total of 195 individuals, distributing over $3,800 in vouchers for food, utilities, rent, transportation and prescription medication. Additionally we sponsored Tools for Schools and gifts for nursing home residents. However, many people were turned away because we simply ran out of funds. Our new fiscal year began on October 1st and our goal this year is to raise $20,000 through donations and grants.

Our Kettle Drive, which is our largest fundraiser, begins in November. We hope that you will be able to assist us in our efforts to help the needy residents of our community with a tax deductible donation. We also need individuals to ring bells during the holidays. If you can help us by giving of your time, please call Marla Edwards at 534-9123. If you would like to make a donation, please mail your contribution to Gayle Rayles, 28 Tardy Ford Road, Vevay, IN 47043. If you are in need of assistance, please contact Reverend Ron Snyder at 427-2507. Thanks to Switzerland County we will soon be located in the Senior Citizens Center in Vevay. Reverend Snyder can give you the details.
