Heavy rains on Tuesday result in two vehicle crash on River Road

Heavy rains in the area on Tuesday afternoon contributed to a two vehicle accident on State Road 56 west of Vevay.

According to the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, 911 dispatch received a call of a motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries at approximately 3:50 p.m. Officers from the sheriff’s office, the Vevay Police Department, Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department, Switzerland County EMS, and King’s Daughters’ EMS all responded to the scene.

The news release from the sheriff’s office stated that a vehicle driven by Lauren Chase of near Vevay was traveling west on State Road 56 when her vehicle started hydroplaning due to water on the roadway. The vehicle then went left of center and struck another vehicle that was traveling east on highway 56.

That vehicle was driven by Miriam Hammond of Vevay. She sustained injuries from the crash and was transported to the King’s Daughters’ Hospital for treated. The release said that she was listed in stable condition.

Lauren Chase sustained injuries from the crash, and was treated and released from the King’s Daughters’ Hospital.

A passenger in Miriam Hammond’s vehicle, Lloyd Caddell of near East Enterprise, also sustained injuries form the crash and was transported to the King’s Daughters’ Hospital for treatment. Family members of Lloyd Caddell said that they expected him to be moved to Jewish Hospital in Louisville on Wednesday.

Brandon Leap, a passenger in the vehicle being driven by Lauren Chase, also sustained injuries in the accident, and was treated and released from the King’s Daughters’ Hospital.
