Hauser upends Shiners in sectional


The Rising Sun Shiners’ baseball season came to an end as the Hauser Jets posted a 4-3 win in opening round action of the Class A Sectional 60 on Wednesday, May 25 in Madison.

A leadoff walk to Brandon Holt saw Hauser score on a hard single up the middle off of starter Mitchell Morris.

Rising Sun loaded the bases with two outs in the second. Brent Turner reached on an error followed by walks to Jakob Sandlin and Tyler Camden but RS could not score.

Senior Kurtis Armstrong singled and stole second but was stranded there in the third.

Morris took a two hitter into the sixth before giving up a double to Jared Schoen. Shaw bunted and reached safely when he knocked the ball out of Morris’ glove on a tag attempt. Bases were loaded after a walk

Sam Meek. With the pulled in infield, Rising Sun got the ball it wanted but an errant throw to home saw two runs score with Morris being slid into at the plate as Meek scored.

Speedster Bryant Housemyer (playing in his fifth game since returning from injury) led off the seventh with a bunt single. Freshman leadoff Jake Bovard walked then Brady Murray walked. Morris doubled but Brayden Bush (running for Murray) was thrown out at third.

Morris stole third and put himself in position to score the tying run on a wild pitch.

Will Rose singled and was forced at second. Shaw was hit by a pitch then Sam Meek delivered the game winning RBI.

Rising Sun had six hits. Derrick Eldridge and Morris had two each for the Shiners along with one each by Armstrong and Housemyer. Sandlin reached on three walks, Murray had two free passes with one to Bovard, Camden and Housemyer.

Schoen was the winning pitcher with six strike outs and eight walks. Morris took the loss allowing six walks and two hit batters along with three strikeouts. Each pitcher picked off a runner at first.

Hauser advanced to defeat Oldenburg Academy 12-2 before losing 6-0 to Jac-Cen-Del in the sectional final on Monday. JCD had defeated South Decatur 10-2 to advance to the finals.

Rising Sun’s season ended at 15-5.
