The Switzerland County girls varsity golf team competed in the Sectional on Saturday — and senior Lady Pacer Hailey Hines advanced on to the Regional tournament with an outstanding round.
Coach Natalie Wheeler said that the Sectional was almost a six hour round in some pretty warm weather.
“We had a lot of positive moments out there, showcasing our improvements,” Wheeler said. “Throughout the season, each player has had shining moments and each of them had a new personal best this season. Our three juniors will have another chance next year to continue building upon those skills.”
On Saturday, Switzerland County placed sixth out of 10 teams, but Hines was able to take the first individual spot that advanced her to Regionals — placing fourth overall with an 18-hole round of 88.
In the Sectional, the IHSAA takes the top three teams and the top three individuals not on an advancing team, allowing Hines to move on. She is only the second female golfer in school history to advance to Regionals as an individual.
The Regional will be held at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis tomorrow (Friday).
Along with Hines, the Lady Pacers had Lily Williams had a round of 119; Kenna Perkins shot a round of 124; and Brooklyn Flanders finished her round with a score of 126.
