‘Grape Escape’ is big event in Vevay

“Grape Escape” was the theme for the August “First Friday” event that happened last Friday night in downtown Vevay.

The event, which was sponsored by the Swiss Wine Festival, was presented by Vevay Main Street.

A big part of the event on Friday night was the judging and display of decorated wine barrels that had been sponsored by businesses and organizations.

The barrel designed by the Swiss Friends of Animals earned first place in the judging; followed by the barrel designed by Main Street Cafe. The barrel designed by Friendship State Bank placed third; and Vevay Newspapers’ barrel earned Honorable Mention status.

Overall there were 15 barrels on display for the competition, with each barrel also carrying a donation box so that people could give to a charity that was designated by the designers of each barrel.

Other businesses and organizations participating included: WKID, Danner’s Hardware, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, Keli’s Critter Care, State Farm Insurance, Firewood Corporation, Schenck Mansion, Turtle Creek Harbor, G.G.’s Grill, and Bizarre Ladies.

The Swiss Wine Festival had an information table which will be set up on the corner of Main St. and Ferry Streets, with souvenirs, riverboat cruise tickets, amusement ride tickets, parking passes, admission tickets, and raffle tickets all available; and a group from Belterra Casino Resort and Spa also entertained visitors at the corner of Main and Ferry streets.
