The Switzerland County varsity golf team prepared for the ORVC tournament with two matches during the past week.
– On Monday, May 15th, the squad traveled to Rising Sun to play in a four-team event, and ended up shooting their lowest team score of the season.
“Three of our players: Hunter Hayes, Nate Braun, and Garrett Demaree had their lowest score of the season,” head coach Natalie Wheeler said. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to win the meet, but we saw much improvement.”
Rising Sun won the meet with a team score of 173, tying second place South Dearborn, who also had a 173; but the Shiners earned the win on the strength of Sam Markland being the medalist for the match.
Switzerland County had a 179 for third; and Lawrenceburg finished with a 181.
Individually, Nick Braun, Hayes, and Nate Braun all shot scores of 44; while Demaree had a 47 and Josh Tice finished with a 50.
– Thursday night, May 18th the Pacers celebrated Senior Night with a three-way meet with South Ripley and Shawe Memorial. Switzerland County was the only school with enough golfers to record a team score, finishing with a 191.
It was a fitting farewell to seniors Nate Braun, Nick Braun, Hunter Hayes, Josh Tice, Justice Bledsoe and Zack Wainscott.
Scores included: Nick Braun with a 43; Kyle Whitham with a 45; Nate Braun with a 50; Tice with a 53 and Demaree with a 55.
Also: Collin Bovard had a 52; Wainscott had a 58; Bledsoe had a 61; and Pete Kuchart also had a 61.
