The Switzerland County Lady Pacer swim team concluded its season at the Floyd Central Sectional last Saturday; and did so in a big way, as three relay teams set new school records.
Senior Jacqueline Hensley completed her swim career in glorious fashion, as she was a member of both the record-setting 200-meter medley relay team and also the 400-meter freestyle relay team.
Coach Eric Cole told the girls that if they all swam their personal best that they would break the record by .03 seconds. Evidently they all believed it because they wound up breaking it by over one second.
Other members of the 200-meter medley relay team are juniors Taylor Topie, Regan Chitwood and Megan Chitwood.
The second relay to swim at the Sectional was the 200-meter freestyle relay. Members of the relay team included: Taylor Topie, Shelby Cole, Regan Chitwood and Megan Chitwood.
Like the medley relay, the girls set a new school record – bettering the old mark that they set earlier in the year by 1.8 seconds.
The final relay was the 400-meter freestyle relay – and once again a clean sweep of new records was turned in by the Lady Pacers.
Coach Cole said that the team has been trying to get under the five-minute mark all season – and they finally achieved that goal on the final swim of the season.
The record before the Sectional was 5:09.14; and during last Thursday’s preliminary swim at the Sectional, the Lady Pacers lowered that mark to 5:02.87.
Then, during the finals on Saturday, the team dropped below its five-minute goal, establishing the new school record once again, this time in a time of 4:57.76.
Members of the record setting relay were: Taylor Topie, Jacqueline Hensley, Regan Chitwood, and Megan Chitwood.
