Girls scrimmage Friday, open season Tuesday

The Rising Sun Lady Shiners will open regular season play at home on Tuesday, Aug. 16th against Greensburg.

Shiner fans can get a first look at this year’ team during scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 12th as they host Switzerland County at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Kristine Rumsey’s girls finished 6-4 in the initial season of the Ohio River Valley Conference in 2015. They were 7-13 overall before closing out the season in the sectional against top ranked LAwrenceburg.

The season was marred by injuries. Among those returning will be senior Macy Elliott who had concussion problems a year ago and is sporting a padded helmet this fall.

Other seniors include Claire Blackwell and Ashley Yauch.

Juniors Chelsea Brown and Erica Schraeder bring scoring experience along with sophomore Keira Oser. Kasey Baker, Kiersten Pruiett and Jayden McAlister round out the junior class.

Other returning sophomores include keeper Riley Chipman, Morgan Bush, Miranda Hall, Allison Steele, and Alinna Bennett.

The incoming freshmen class includes Kinsey Price, Sydney Pitts, Shyanne Higham and Emma Davis in rounding out the 18 player squad.

The Lady Shiners are on the road at Franklin County and LAwrenceburg before returning home to play Southwestern on Aug. 29th to open Ohio River Valley conference play.

After a road game at Milan, they host ORVC foe Switzerland County on Sept. 1st.

Rising Sun will be on the road for the first two weeks of September before returning home to play Oldenburg Academy, Madison, South Ripley and Milan to close the regular season.

Rising Sun will host the girls sectional October 3rd through 8th.
