Girls golf team swings into its season


The Switzerland County girls varsity golf team may be low on numbers, but the team is battling hard during the first part of its season.

Here’s a look at the results so far:

– The squad’s first meet was at Belterra on Monday, August 4th. Jennings County won the meet with a team score of 228; followed by Switzerland County with a score of 278. Madison Shawe also competed, but did not have enough golfers to record a team score.

Individually for the Pacers: Rachel Ard had a 67; Kelsi Konkle and Kristen Rose each had 70s; and Hope Tankersley and Shelby Cole each shot scores of 71.

– On Tuesday, August 12th, the Lady Pacers played in a four-team event at Hoosier Links.

South Ripley won the meet with a score of 227; followed by Southwestern with 238; Switzerland County with 255; and Jac-Cen-Del with 271.

Individually: Kelsi Konkle shot a 55 to lead the Lady Pacers; with Rachel Ard shooting a 56. Kristen Rose had a 68; Shelby Cole had a 75; and Hope Tankersley fired a 79.

– Switzerland County then battled in a three-way meet at Hidden Valley on Thursday, August 14th.

South Dearborn won the meet with a score of 242; with Lawrenceburg second at 255 and Switzerland County in third with a score of 266.

Kelsi Konkle led the way for the Lady Pacers with a score of 63; followed by Rachel Ard with a 67; Hope Tankersley and Kristen Rose each had scores of 68; and Shelby Cole had a 69.

- Next came a meet at North Branch on Monday, August 18th. It was a four team invitational, with South Ripley winning with a team score of 210. Southwestern had a score of 239; Jac-Cen-Del had a 247; and Switzerland County did not have enough golfers to qualify for a team score.

Kristen Rose had a 67 in the meet; followed by Hope Tankersley with a score of 72 and Shelby Cole with a round of 75.
