Freshman boys pick up first win


The Switzerland County freshman boys basketball team earned its first win of the season over the weekend in the Frosty Classic Tournament at Lawrenceburg.

The Pacers won the consolation game with a 20-14 victory over South Dearborn.

In the game, Justus Powell was the leading scorer, finishing with 10 points and two steals. Richie Lay had five points and five rebounds; Kyle Konkle had two points and three rebounds; Sean Oatman had two points, three rebounds, and two steals; and T.J. White added one point, seven rebounded, two steals, and two blocks.

“I was very proud of our defense and rebounding in the second half,” Coach Sean McGarvey said. “We limited them to four points and did not give them many second chance opportunities.”

In the opening game of the tournament, the Pacers lost a heartbreaker to Southwestern by a score of 25-23.

Justus Powell led the way with eight points, and also had five rebounds and two steals. Kyle Konkle had six points and two steals; Richie Lay had three points; Chance Grubbs had two points, two assists, four rebounds, and two steals; Sean Oatman had two points and two rebounds; and T.J. White had two points and five rebounds.

The team’s next game is Wednesday, January 12th, at home versus Lawrenceburg in a 7:30 p.m. start.
