Football Homecoming celebration tomorrow night at Switzerland County High School

Switzerland County High School will hold its second Football Homecoming celebration tomorrow (Friday) night, when the Pacers host Oldenburg Academy.

The evening of activities will begin with the Homecoming Parade, which is hosted by the Pep Club. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m., with lineup beginning near Jeff-Craig Elementary at 5 p.m.

The parade will move past Jeff-Craig and Switzerland County Middle School before passing Switzerland County High School and making its way to the football field.

The student council is selling hamburgers and hot dogs from 4:30-6:30 p.m., with proceeds to benefit Riley Children’s Hospital.

The homecoming game will start at 7 p.m., and the night will be highlighted by the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, which will take place at halftime of the contest.

There are six senior girls and six senior boys who have been nominated by their classmates as this year’s Homecoming Court. Candidates include:

QUEEN CANDIDATES

– ARIANA BRIGHT is the daughter of Georganna Ray and David Bright, and she is a four year member of the cheerleading team and a three year member of the volleyball team.

She is active in SADD, where she serves as Vice President; and has also been a member of the Pep Club for four years and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years. She was a member of the Sophomore Leadership Program; is a member of the National Honor Society; and was a delegate to Hoosier Girls State.

Her career plans are to attend college and study forensic psychology while cheerleading, with a goal of a career in profiling.

– MacKENZIE COVINGTON is the daughter of Joe Covington and the late Barbara Covington, and she has been a member of the track team for four years and the soccer team for three years. She is active in the Business Professionals of America, where she serves as Vice President; National Honor Society, where she is currently the President; and is a three-year member of student council. She represented her classmates last month in the Swiss Ambassador competition; and is currently the Co-President of the Senior Class.

Her career plans are to pursue a degree in Neonatal Nursing, and possibly minor in a foreign language.

– KELLI HART is the daughter of Toby and Chanda Hart, and she is active in the Art Club, SADD, and has participated in cheerleading and the Dance Team in the past. She is a nine-year member of the Pleasant Outlaws 4-H club, where she has served as secretary for two years, and the club also volunteered at the Switzerland County Animal Shelter. She has raised Reserve Grand Champion steers along with Showmanship honors with her horse. Her interests include raising baby cows and riding her horse, along with showing cattle.

Her career ambition is to earn a college degree in education.

– TAYLAR JORDAN is the daughter of Billy and Madonna Jordan, and she is a four-year member of the soccer, basketball, and softball teams. She has also been active in the Pep Club for four years; in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for three years; and has volunteered at the food pantry. She earned All Conference honors in soccer and softball; is a three-year member of the National Honor Society; and ranks in the Top 10 of her class. She has been the captain of the soccer team for two years.

Her career goal after high school is to go to college and earn a degree in radiology.

– MALLORY PHAGAN is the daughter of Troy and Angela Phagan, and she is a four year member of the basketball and softball teams; and a three-year member of the volleyball team. She has been active in the Pep Club for four years; Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years; and has volunteered her time at the Switzerland County Animal Shelter and the food pantry. She is a member of the National Honor Society; participated in the Sophomore Leadership Program; and ranks in the Top 10 in her class.

After high school, she plans on attending college to pursue a career as a physician’s assistant.

– McKAYLI SCUDDER is the daughter of Devin Scudder and Chastity Scudder, and she is a four-year member of the soccer and track teams; as well as having participated on the golf and basketball teams in the past. She is a four-year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Pep Club; and has volunteered her time working at the food pantry. She was a member of the Prom Committee. She is a member of Switzerland Baptist Church; and in athletics she earned All Conference honors in track, and was the MVP for three years. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

After graduation she plans on attending Indiana University to pursue a degree in business management.

KING CANDIDATES

– NATHAN BRAUN is the son of Helmut and Robin Braun; and he is a four-year member of the soccer, swim, and golf teams. He participated in the Business Professionals of America in the past; and also participated in the Swiss Wine Festival’s 3-on-3 tournament. During his junior year, he earned the Mental Attitude Award for the golf team.

His career plans are to attend the University of Kentucky and pursue a career as a physical therapist.

-NICK BRAUN is the son of Helmut and Robin Braun, and he is a four-year member of the swim, soccer, and golf teams. He is a three-year member of the Business Professionals of America; is a member of the National Honor Society; and was a part of the Sophomore Leadership Program. He was All Conference in golf; was the MVP of the swim team; and holds three school records in swimming.

His career plans are to attend the University of Kentucky and earn a pharmacy degree; and then attend medical school for pathology.

– LUKE COMPTON is the son of Doug and Rachel Compton; and he is a three-year member of the football team and the track team; and is a four-year member of the Switzerland County High School Marching Band and Pep Band. He was a two-year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; is a member of the National Honor Society; and participated in the Sophomore Leadership Program.

He plans on attending Ivy Tech Community College to complete his general studies, and then transfer to Butler University to earn a degree in music education.

– KOLLIN HAYES is the son of Jamie Hayes and Heather Stewart, and he is a four-year member of the basketball team; played baseball for two years and football for one year. He is an active member of the Pep Club; and also served on the Prom Committee. He was a member of the conference champion basketball team in 2014 and the Rivertown Tourney basketball champions in 2014; and was All Conference in baseball last year.

He plans on attending Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, and is undecided on his major.

– WILL PIKE is the son of Billy and Tanya Pike, and he is a four-year member of the football team and a three-year member of the track team. He is active in the FFA, serving as treasurer; and also is active in 4-H, being a nine-year member of the Pleasant Outlaws and also a five-year member of Junior Leaders, where he serves as Vice President. He raised the Grand Champion steer at the fair in 2014; and has earned Most Valuable Defensive Back and Most Valuable Wide Receiver honors in football.

His career plans are to attend Vincennes University and pursue a degree in agriculture.

– BRODY SPLAIN is the son of Bill and Janet ‘Fizz’ Splain, and he is a three-year member of the track team and a one-year member of the basketball team. He has served as Class President for two years and Class Vice President for one year; is active in the 4-H program, where he is a Junior Leaders and has also served as a camp counselor and director. He is a four-year member of student council and the Pep Club; and has traveled to Africa, where he has hunted and explored.

His travels have inspired his career ambition to become a professional hunting outfitter.
