Florence News 9-15-16


The annual 9/11 Remembrance Service program was very impressive at the Florence Church of Christ Sunday afternoon. The main speaker was Ed Gerdowsky from Batesville. He is the Indiana Volunteer Fire Fighter Association associate Chaplin for District 19. He had many interesting stories about September 11th, 2001 events that changed the lives of many in our nation. He also praised the fire fighters and rescue people and all who helped where they were needed. Local rescue volunteers Gary Wentworth and Nadine Swift attended the meeting and all enjoyed refreshments and fellowship.

Denny and Mary Lou Bowman visited Patty Chase and attended the 9/11 service at Florence. We also had a good visit with Steve and Sharon Ward at the service.

Family Camp will be Friday evening and Saturday at Whitewater camp with good speakers and music.

The Florence Church of Christ Community Picnic will be Saturday September 24th at the church yard with the food being served at 5 p.m. The big attractions will be Zach Shelton and 64 to Grayson, as seen with Josh Turner, The Gaithers, Charlie Daniels and more at 7 p.m. Come and enjoy the day.

Roy and Bonnie Duckworth and Verle Truitt visited Genevieve Truitt at Dillsboro Waters.

Margaret Lee Weidmann’s company was Allen, Linda Harrell, Randy, Loraine and Ryan Brown, Janice Ramsey, Keith Brown, Dutchie Scholl, Donna Miller, Kay O’Neal, Diana Brown, Brandon and Julie Messmore and girls, Gracie, Maddie and Vivie and Lyla Rose, Judy Roberts Ellegood, Judy Kay McKee, Emily Lewellan from Dresden, Tennessee and Linda Ramsey from Martin, Tennessee. Cheryle Messmore spent the weekend and joined the Vevay Girls at the Swiss Inn, Also Peggy Storm. Thanks Peggy for going the extra mile for the candy. Randy and Lorraine Brown took mom to the Shrimp House Saturday night for supper and they were surprised when Dickie Jones and Kay O’Neal joined them. I hope we didn’t forget anymore.

Frances Weaver called to tell me about her company. Dorothy Stewart from Fort Meyers, Florida and her daughter Diana Powell from Madison visited here. It’s always nice to hear from Frances.

Glenda Sullivan and Patty Chase had lunch at Frisch’s at Aurora where they met Denny and Mary Lou Bowman. They also had a short visit with Mary Florence Koons.

On Saturday, Janey and Richard Sullivan of Westport attended the Allensville School reunion at the Moorefield Firehouse. Afterwards they stopped to see Marjorie Whitham at Swiss Villa and later visited with Glenda Sullivan.

Saturday evening Dave Shinkle of Delhi called Glenda Sullivan to check on her and said he and his wife and 3 grandkids had been to Nashville, Tennessee on a small vacation.

Dale Thompson had a bad fall and was taken to Indianapolis Methodist Hospital for surgery for a brain bleed. The surgery went well but he also had some bad bruises and a cracked jaw bone. Bonnie and Roy Duckworth were with him Friday night after surgery. Danilee has been with him. He was in Intensive Care but may be out by now. His home address is, 1640 West County Rd 725 North, North Vernon, Indiana, 47265 for cards.
