The American Cancer Society Relay for Life was really nice Saturday in spite of the hot weather. The Farm Bureau had a great lunch prepared by Gayla Bullock for about 70 guest and survivors. They had a balloon release after the lunch. It was nice, thanks to Farm Bureau helpers. We had some new teams this year and the old faithful ones. The Florence Church of Christy (Ray and Bonnie) made home made ice cream. It was a big hit. Other teams had good food and items you could get for a donation. The local churches donated cupcakes for the luncheon and had plenty left over for free ones for the walkers and visitors. I (Patty) somehow got credit for coordinating the event but I didn’t. We need to give credit to Brandy Graham for the overall leader and I don’t know who were the local ones but will try to have those names and some totals next week. The balloon release at the closing was very impressive and they had a beautiful song at the finish. Thanks to everyone who came to support the event. I hope to have more information next week.

Lura Mae Smith of Fishers called when she read the death notice for Dorothy Nicolas in the Vevay paper. Dorothy’s father was the preacher at the Florence Church of Christ years ago and a memory she has is when Dorothy was sitting in the car before church listening to the radio and came in to say she just heard of the bombing of Pearl harbor. That preacher also married Lura Mae Patterson and Dave Smith. Good memories from Lura.

Glenda Sullivan and Patty Chase was in Dillsboro and ran into three yard sales last week and had a wonderful visit with Dick Federman at his sale. He worked at the shoe factory with them and it was a good visit.

Glenda’s company was Donna Hughes, Ruth Lohide, Patty Chase and Roy and Bonnie Duckworth.

Margaret Lee Weidmann’s company was Randy, Lorraine and Ryan Brown and Rebecca, Kay O’Neal and Kevin Scudder. When they took Randy to Mo’s last week to celebrate his birthday, Lorraine got to go too. I left her out – sorry.

Carolyn Lowe is spending time with Pete at the rehabilitation center in Louisville. Their daughter Jerri Lowe returned to Florida. She came for Father’s Day and stayed when Pete got so bad. Get well prayers for them. The grand children are staying with Carolyn and at the house.

Denny and Mary Lou Bowman had a wonderful vacation last week in New York enjoying all the sights. Happy Birthday Mary Lou.

Patty Chase and Glenda Sullivan had lunch one day at the Reservation in Milan and had a nice visit with Noel Houze and his son and other friends.

Bonnie Duckworth. Alberta Pickett, Patty Chase and Glenda Sullivan went to Louisville Wednesday in that awful rain storm for Glenda’s check up at the doctor. She got a good report.

Dale and Danilee Thompson spent the weekend at their home in Florence.

I haven’t heard form Vera McSwain lately. I’ve lost Jimmy’s phone number.

We were really sorry to hear of the death of John L. Lock. He is my brother-in-law and a good friend to many. He will be missed. Sympathy to Nina and to his son Johnny Dale Lock and all the family.

Had a nice visit with Sherry Brindley (forgot her married name) in Madison. She is in visiting from Missouri.
