Florence News 5-3-12

The Concord Church yard sale will be Thursday (today) and Friday. I’ve heard it will be a big one with a lot of good items. Hope to see you there.

The Vevay Music Club will be at the Hoosier Theater Tuesday night, May 8th, at 7 p.m. for the Betty Swango benefit show.

We have been hearing a lot of good reports about the new voting system. I was able to do it so you know it is easy. Get out and vote to get your man in for the fall election.

Glenda Sullivan and Patty Chase went to the Moorefield chili supper and silent auction Saturday evening and had a good visit with Laverne Self, Debbie Keller, Mary Lou Lucas and Pam and several other friends. The supper was a fundraiser for the Moorefield Relay for Life team.

The Florence and Friends Relay team had a great pancake and sausage breakfast Saturday for its fundraiser. Thanks to team members Bonnie and Roy Duckworth, Glenda Sullivan, Corinne Martin, Sharon Ballard, Shannon Jackson, Rita and Andrea Brogan, Cora Fox, Traci Holmes, Gertrude Voris, Mary Skaggs, Joe Rader, Gladys and Burnie Hunt and Charles Pickett for their hard work and to other members who donated stuff but could not be there. Also thanks to all who came and enjoyed the breakfast and donated their freewill amount.

There will be a spaghetti supper at Patriot for its Relay team Saturday night.

I have been trying to find out who left a pretty welcome mat with three pretty kitten pictures on it on my front porch while I was gone. It is so nice and I’d really like to thank whoever did it. My real kitty cats thank you too.

Well I made another mistake last week. It was Kerry Allen’s dad that Roy and Bonnie Duckworth went to visitation for in Bedford. I forgot to add the ‘dad’ and it looked like it was Kerry’s visitation. Sorry Kerry.

Bonnie and Roy spent most of Friday night at Dearborn County Hospital with Bonnie’s dad, Verle Truitt. Genevieve was there too and they brought her home while Verle stayed for medical attention. He returned home the next morning and is doing okay. Their granddaughter Amy Maddox visited with Genevieve that night.

Faye Lewis’ company was Pete Furnish, Mark Scott, Mary Leo Archer, Evelyn Smith, Nora Gross, Judy Amos, Don Allen, Cathy DeBaun, Mike and Joanna Sawalich, Ron and Jean Sandidge and Glenda Sullivan.

Charles and Alberta Pickett attended a get together for the Romans family Saturday afternoon at the Community Building in Vevay. Many others attended and had a good time. I had a nice visit by phone with Doris Chase. She said Bud and Debbie Vann and Connie Thies were visiting at the time and Rick and Carolyn McClellan and Steve Kinne had been visiting that week. She said they were doing okay.

Leona Adams had minor surgery to remove a port last week. She was kind of woosie when I talked to her but said she was okay. Mike and Kathy James visited Leona and Richard Saturday and came to the pancake breakfast in Florence.

Get well prayers go out to Paul Chase, Joan Scott, Loretta Hite, Jeff Peelman and many others.

We went to Avalon White’s visitation and had a nice visit with her girls, Jeannie and Glenda and the grandchildren. Sympathy to the family. Sympathy also to the Mary Swango Peelman family and the James Ellegood families.

Errol and Jill Judy of near Vevay traveled to the home of Crista and Phil Burbrink in Columbus on Saturday, April 28th, to celebrate birthdays for granddaughters Isabel, turning three and Mallory, turning six.

Jill prepared German potato salad, coleslaw, baked mac and cheese, wilted lettuce (grown in Errol’s greenhouse), homemade vanilla and banana ice cream.

Crista and Phil made some adorable and inexpensive party favors and decorations for their home by going on Pinterest. The girls chose a butterfly theme and this website shows great ideas on everything. Everyone had a fun filled day.
