Florence News 5-23-13


Jonathan Ricardo Brigham, 21 years old, of the Florence, Kentucky, area passed away May 12th, 2013, from Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome. He was a long time best friend to Rooshil Patel. They attended KU and were scheduled to take the Medical College Admission test this week. Rooshil is the son of Mukesh and Bina Patel of the Fairway Inn in Florence, Indiana. We extend our sympathy to Jonathan’s friends and family and send good wishes for Rooshil’s MCAT.

The American Cancer Relay teams will have a meeting Thursday, May 23rd, (tonight) at 6 p.m. at the Water Works Building in Vevay. Try to be there.

The Concord Church yard sale will be Thursday and Friday, May 30th and 31st., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. New toaster oven, coffee table, many household items, some new. Lots of girls’ clothes sizes 3 and 4. The church is so fortunate to have friends of the church donate so many nice items.

The indoor yard sale was good at the East Enterprise Firehouse Saturday. Several people sat up their tables and many came in to look and shop. Lou Wadsworth and Patty Chase had a table with Mary Kay and had a good time visiting old friends. The Fire Department ladies hope to do this again. On the way home Patty stopped at the Ridge Top Shop on Markland Pike and had a nice visit with Debbie Turner.

The Patriot High School Alumni will be this weekend.

The Florence Church of Christ had a nice weekend outing at Clifty Falls on the weekend. One highlight was when they “saw the light.” It was in a plastic bucket hanging from a tree. Cid said that’s now on the bucket list to make one like it since it lights up a big camping area with a 75 watt light bulb. Saturday evening Verle and Genevieve Truit visited them and Glenda Sullivan, Patty Chase, Alberta Pickett and Gertrude Voris visited and enjoyed a great camp cooked dinner. It was really good.

The Florence Church of Christ adopted two miles of State Highway 156 to clean up and take care of. Several members pitched in last Saturday to help. They got it done in just a few hours and it looks good. Thanks to all the helpers.

Margaret Beatty had surgery Saturday on her hip after a fall. Get well prayers for her.

Charles Pickett had some stitches in his head and spent last weekend in Norton’s Care Center. He is recovering at home now. Prayers for Charles, Tina Henry, Jim Chase, Patty Chase, Daisy Swanson, Millie Coy, Carolyn Lowe, Randy Scott, Darlene and Bill Olds, Gayle Lowe and many others.

Glenda Sullivan took Patty Chase for a pain shot Wednesday at King’s Daughters’ Hospital and Patty and Glenda took Sharon Ballard for her chemotherapy Thursday. Sunday they visited Loretta Westrick near Milton, Kentucky.

Denny and Diana Brown’s company last week was Charlie Harmon. They want o thank Charlie for keeping up the mowing. Dave and Sharon Wilson, Shawn Auxier, Herman Wattenbaurger, Cheryl Messmore, Audrey Marsh, Angie Handlon, K.C. Banta, Linda Furnish, Margaret Lee Weidmann and Judy and Jack Bailey. Thanks to Dave Wilson for more good meatloaf and the meal. Audrey, Margaret Lee, Denny and Diana and maybe others really enjoyed it.

Margaret Lee Weidmann’s company was Randy and Ryan Brown, Gail Ann Clements, Kay O’Neal, Mom and Randy visited Millie Coy Wednesday and later had supper at the Broadway in Madison. Margaret Lee visited Denny and Diana and Audrey Marsh Friday and has to comment on the delicious dinner that David Wilson brought. That was the best meatloaf. Thank, Dave.

Faye Lewis had a big day Wednesday. It was her 95th birthday. Jeanette Humphreys and Robert and Betty Page came from Madison with a good lunch for her. Faye got flowers, gift, calls and is still getting cards in the mail every day. Other company was Robin Lawson, Bill Olds, Mike Sawalich, Alice Faye Whitham, Gertrude Voris, Nora Gross, Wilma Tiurner, John and Mary Archer, Ron and Jean Sandidge and Glenda Sullivan. Happy Birthday, Faye.

Patty Chase had a nice visit with Gordon and LaDonna Scudder at the Fairway Inn. They are in from Florida for a reunion in Ohio Saturday and visiting other friends and family. Debbie Gregory, Bonnie Robinson and granddaughter Kaitlyn visited Patty during the week.

Rosalind Evans of Mitchell and Shirley Harding of Shoals visited in the area for a Mary Kay meetiing and on Wednesday they met Glenda Sullivan and Patty Chase at Julia Knox House for a good lunch.

Ken and Sylvia Byars, Gary, Karen and David Wentworth, Sally Thompson, Judy Lozier, Patty Chase, Glenda Sullivan and Roy and Bonnie Duckworh enjoyed dinner at The Pines Sunday to celebrate Roy’s birhday. Happy Birhday, Roy.

Gracie Holmes spent last weekend with Pawpaw Earl and Traci Holmes.
